So I just ordered a set of SCS Ray10 (-12) wheels for my 21’. This will be the first time I’ve ever run wheels with a negative offset. I’ve read that people sometimes say that running a negative offset will cause of a lot of debri to be kicked up on to the rocker panels and lower part of the front doors. I’ll most likely be removing my mudflaps to prevent any rub, so is this anything that I should worry about?

If so, is there anyway to prevent/protect the paint?

    Thanks

You could use some clear 3M wrap on the panels you think are going to get debris kicked up at them

Depends on the width of tire you're running.

265 and below probably not, 285 and above maybe a little more.

Typically though it's a non issues, rock sliders with fill plates reduces it considerably and you can get bushwacker or other aftermarket flares which usually offer another .5-1" of tire coverage.

Me personally I've always used the "It's a truck it's supposed to be dirty." solution.

    (SCS Stealth 6 17x8.5 with 285 75 17 "34's")

If you are running a 285 wide tire you will more than likely need aftermarket upper controll arms assuming you don't already have them.

I was planning on running either 265/70r16 or 265/75r16 KO2’s on stock suspension, so hopefully I won’t have to swap out any control arms.

As for sliders/running boards, I was playing with the idea of going with Go Rhino DSS’s.

I don’t mind my truck being a bit dirty at all, I guess I was more so worried about paint chips/damage from rocks etc..

To answer your question, yes you should be worried. It will fling pebbles/dirt/mud/water on the side of the truck. I just put 0 offset wheels on and had to remove the stock mudflaps. I am now trying to find a different mudflap that may prevent rubbing and stop junk from being thrown at the truck.

I had -12 offset wheels on my 2018 Tacoma. I got all kinds of paint chips and mud fling up the side of the truck. I switched to RekGen mudflaps...very similar to RokBlox mudflaps. These two brands make flaps that allow you to adjust how far they stick out from the truck, allowing you to adjust when you put negative offset wheels on. This helped!

Zero offset here and I have stuff kicked up to the doors and rear quarters even with the mudflaps AND Westin Outlaw running boards. They catch most of it though, so I would recommend doing some running boards or sliders with fill plates if you're worried about the paint.

Thanks, I’ll look into those! Do you have any running boards?

Yea, I think at the very least I’ll be getting some decent running boards. So that’s good to hear that they do prevent most crud from being flung up though..

I did NOT have running boards, that would be a good idea too!

I'm not big on mud so I can't really comment on that piece
