One thing that bugs me on my 2021 Pro is that the speedo and tach gauges are dark during the day. This is especially irritating during a cloudy day. The center info is obviously nice and lit up, but a little gauge backlight would be nice. Does anyone know if this is a possibility to be modded up? Maybe thru software like tech stream or Carista? Thanks for any help.

Take the button you use to reset the trip meter and turn it to the right. That will adjust the brightness.

That doesn’t do anything while the headlamps are off.

If you drive with the lights in the DRL switch it seems like it is bright enough for me? I always leave the truck in that position and then step it up as it get's dark. But I'm pretty sure with the DRL switch on and the brightness up that everything is lit up nicely. ..unless my truck is different.

Or I should say, that only changes the brightness of the info center. The gauges are still not backlit while the headlamps are off. I want the gauges backlit during the day if possible.

I drive with the headlamp switch on auto. Hmm, I’ll look into the drl mode, but would rather not have to turn the lights on myself as it gets dark.

It should. If your brightness is already all the way up, I'm not sure what to tell you.

If you drive with the headlights on or the mode that is between DRL and headlights, I'm pretty sure it dims the dash a bit. But DRL mode is just the outer driving lights and no tails on and the dash is brighter for daytime use. So I keep the truck in that mode at all times and the switch it up when it get's dark out. Hopefully that helps.

Per the manual there are 3 different headlamp stalk configurations. Mine look like this. I have on, parking lights, auto and DRL off. I just want to drive in Auto and have the gauges (not just the info center) back lit. DEFD5C9F-D53A-4DEF-8FCA-196781CE3C5A.jpg

I believe the Offroads are slightly different, or at least mine is. As mine doesn't have "auto" in that spot, it's "DRL" but everything else looks the same.

I know, exactly, what you are having an issue with and my sport has the same configuration. Been looking for a resolution as well.

My temporary solution has been leaving the parking lights on in order to have the gauge cluster illuminated.

Anybody familiar with tech stream (I think that’s what it’s called) want to chime in if you can program the backlighting to be on all the time?

OP, I don't know your location but Canada for one, just put in law that new vehicles cannot have the dash illuminated without the lights on as too many idiots drive around in the rain-fog-darkness. Also all new vehicles must have auto sensing for the headlights. I didn't think it was the 21 model year but just glanced at the article because it rains a lot in Florida and many people do in fact drive black cars with zero lights on.

Thanks Gatordog, that does makes sense. It just seems to dark in some situations. Still hoping I can mod this. :fingerscrossed:

Looking at the wiring schematics, it appears that the illumination for the cluster is turned on through the CAN network. I don't see a dedicated ground or positive trigger to activate it.

I believe it just depends what package you have as my TRD OR has the auto setting as shown in the pic.

My Sport has the auto setting as well. You can also adjust the sensitivity of the light sensor that automatically turn the headlights on through the head unit, but I haven't seen anything separate for the gauges.

Haha. If it turns on through the CAN network then it is possible that it could be programmed but I don't see a way to wire it up to an ignition source to turn it on.
