And, the route numbers increase to the north and east.

Although, none of this pertains to the OP realizing that his compass did not agree with his actual direction.

Only vultures use dead reckoning, thus Davidstaco is a vulture.

These are the only 2 things that every state agreed on when mapping the interstates. mile markers are useless in some states

haha maybe so. Years ago I actually used the sun position and a little dead reckoning to decide which dirt roads to choose driving through New Mexico, some weren’t shown on the map and I didn’t want to stop and get my compass out of my gear in the back of the truck camper shell. After 40 miles of driving I arrived at the paved road within a couple miles where I thought I would come out at. Worked quite well!

I haven't got to this page in the manual... this is great info. My truck was set to zone 8 while I am in zone 3. It is now corrected. You are one of the best providers of knowledge here on TW @tonered . My hat goes off to you :hattip:kind sir. Thank you.

Nice.! Wish I could do that. Once off the main roads I never know where i'll pop out. My kids call them "Dad's shortcuts." Really doesn't matter if there is a compass or not. I always give a confident appearance though, and several times I was able to preserve the last drops of fuel by squeezing the steering wheel very tightly, just barely saving us from having to walk.

It is not being lost, it is being on an adventure! No, it is being lost.

Just this last summer I took a shortcut to get to the upper peninsulas Pictured Rocks ferry boat. Quite the adventure. We were able to reschedule the ferry for the next day.

My wife screamed at me and swore this time it really means a divorce. So, once agian, I immediately started looking for a younger version of her. Then she changes her mind a day later. So annoying; she is also lost but in a different way.

Haha great stories. I’ve taken “shortcuts” in the NC mountains that took me nowhere near where I though they would.:D
And though Ive never been lost in the woods (I knew exactly where I was), a couple of times as a teenager out hunting the place where I started from and wanted to go back too was temporarily misplaced.

And even starting 3 digit highways have a highway at each terminus, or are a loop. Odd starting 3 digit highways only connect to another at one end.
