Putting everything back together after tearing the engine apart and there is a lone bolt left over.

This was in the bag I labeled for the a/c bolts.

    No idea where this goes.

    Bolt ID?

Red is the bolt, blue is just a castle nut.

    Hope that helps.

In all seriousness, looks like a bolt for either a wire bracket, like the one that runs under the AC compressor towards the back of the motor and alternator, or possibly for the transmission cooler or power steering lines that runs across the subframe, it may be for a two-part clamp that's hanging off the lines and slid down to a point where you didn't notice them.

If you took it off and labeled it as AC bolts, I would make sure that all of your wire loom brackets are in position, trace all your looms to each end to see if one of the brackets slid down.

I gotta agree it looks like a bolt to hold a small bracket or wire loom on not a compressor mount bolt

Im sure thats what it is but i cant find any lose brackets associated with the compressor.

Truck is running fine right now, ill keep the bolt around and just periodically see if it fits anywhere.

Quite possible it was in the engine compartment for some time.

Dropped never found and replaced I know I do that quite often

I put the bolts in the corresponding bag as I pulled them off. So this has to do with something related to the ac.

Maybe for a bracket on one of the aluminum AC lines?

You didn't take the hold down bolt for the line to compressor flanges out did you? It's the right size...

You'ed almost certainly have an AC leak if you did though.

Reminds me of the time my prank loving coworkers put extra parts on my service cart .

Talk about driving you crazy when you can`t figure out where a part goes

No brackets I can see and I left the all the AC lines alone so that it would stay sealed. Im going to duct tape this under the hood and just write spare across it.

I did that all the time with new guys when taking apart equipment. Throw a random spring or bolt in the bin, this might be karma for me...

Not sure if those two actually go together, the castle type nut is made for use with a cotter pin, that's my first impression.

As far as the bolt it looks like a self tapping types, hard to tell from the angle, .

Does the bolt have a hole drilled through it for a cotter pin?

There is a possibility that that bolt/nut goes to a linkage / adjustment .

Could be that the wrong type bolt/nut was substituted of the same size .
