I've been trying to go through this thread and make sense of what size tires to go. I own a 21 Tacoma TRD OR SB. I've added the ICON RXT to the rear giving me about 1.5" and I'll be adding OME 886's to the front which is I believe 2". I'm sticking with the stock wheels for now. Leaning towards Toyo OCIII at 285/75/16. Am I making a mistake on size? Been trying to do more research but I have a nail in a sidewall and need to replace sooner than later.

    A few.
When it comes to 285s with a 16 inch rim the heavier 10 ply e-load tires are about your only choice. The 2 lightest tires Ive found in the 285/75/16 size are the bridestone at revos and firestone at's. Both at 51lbs which is light for an e-load tire.

I'm fairly certain you will need wheel spacers to clear the upper control arm with stock tires and 285

With the ifs you don't get clearance with a lift. A lift will let you get away with it if you don't use the travel. I have 285/70/17 with no lift and no rubbing, but I had to trim plastic and do a CMC. Looks like the last pic is on stock wheels. Are you rubbing your control arms on full squish?

I just swapped from stock to 285/75/16 KO2's and absolutely can feel a difference. It's small but I feel like I am hunting for gears about 5-10% more and definitely feels sluggish on takeoff and braking.

Exactly! The funny thing is that with 35" tires the truck doesn't do that.
I guess because of the additional load of the larger tires of the 35's the trucks stays in the lower gears longer and doesn't search for the right gear. My previous 2018 had 35" tires and drove great!

Did you need a steering spacer for your bodylift?

Same. I have 285/70 and can most def tell. And especially in my mileage. Kinda a shame. My first gen was a tired 2.7 4 cylinder with the same size tires… I couldn’t tell the difference when going to the 285/70 in that truck, it was manual though. Im sure being able to pick and chose and manipulate the gears at will made all the difference in the power loss felt within the 2 trucks.
