Im happy with taco sport mt , 34 k trouble free miles .
Ive been working it hard the past 2 yrs , from pulling stumps ( partially dug )
To storing haul runs . Its also-my daily driver and my grandchildrens taxi .
A lot of trucks sound good on paper , only to disappoint .
I know my truck-is good , why would i take a chance on the unknown .

The insanity of inflation and a chip shortage does strange things to rational thinking. I’ve certainly heard about the latest craze but no itching to sell.

I have my ‘18 just like I want it after 3 years. No sense in starting over especially with any vehicle that needs an “adjustment” before it will run and shift like it “should”.

I remember when that happened in about 2004 here..MA

2.75 for 87 is the cheapest I can find here in MA, south of Boston

    Nope.

The rational doesn't fit. Yes, you may "make money" on the sale of your truck. Although, your "gain" will be consumed with the purchase of the next vehicle. If you finance the next ride, this is an easy way to go upside down before the loan is satisfied.

Prices for all vehicles are up. Demand is high, Supply is low driving prices UP.

I recently thought about selling my 2018 SR5 and moving up to an off road. KBB high end private is now $9k more than I paid for it OTD... Then I realized I would just be getting the same truck with a few more gizmos at full msrp. If the 2021's had more power, different transmission, rear diff that didn't howl and leak then I probably would have done it. My family has lots of toys that the Taco struggles to pull or can't even pull so I wouldn't gain anything there by buying another. I realized its just time to move up to a Tundra and start pulling my own weight ha! I am waiting for the 2022 to come out. Hopefully its a winner!

Even that has pitfalls, you might not find what you want/need.

My parents made this mistake in 1998. They looked at it as my sister had moved out, I was almost done with school and would be moving in the near future, so who needs 2000 square feet and an acre in a very expensive town. Their plan was to buy a ranch style house instead. Well, they couldn't find one and ended up in another new house (their first house was bought new in 1982). They still ended up with a slightly smaller house and less taxes in a cheaper town, but wound up not reducing the amount of housecleaning etc. Insult to injury, had they kept the old house one more year it would have appreciated about 100K

Thought you guys might enjoy my random driveway encounter from yesterday:

UPS driver pulled up while I'm in my shop, we get to chatting and he mentioned he just bought a tacoma the other day. 09, trd sport dcsb, same color as mine even - his is 2wd vs my 4wd. His has 89k miles on it, vs my 103k. He paid $23k out the door. Granted he picked it up from a local dealer. But look at that price! For a 2wd! Wow. For reference, my 4wd was $27.4k out the door, inc tax. I think registration was another $450 or so, bought it out of state so that happened later.

By my math I think my truck may no longer have any depreciated value. Granted there's been money put towards maintenance, upgrades, failed parts (looking at you power steering rack at 60k miles) but still. What the heck.

Editing to add - I definitely sent the gentleman to the site here. RIP his wallet...

Nope! I’ll never get a better deal than I did on my 2019 SR Access cab 4x2 Utility Package, brand spanking new $23,700 plus title, tax, tag & fees, and exactly what I wanted. Just got back from a long trip, love this truck.

Had two dealers recently contact me with some great numbers for my taco. tempting but nah. Makes me feel good on the deal I got at the end of the year 2019. I'm in it for the long haul. :thumbsup:Like others have said, my target vehicle would cost more too.

Definitely been thinking about it lately. Have been keeping track of how much I actually use it as a truck. I like the truck, but am not in love with it. Got offered about 6k more than what I paid at the beginning of 2020. Been thinking about downsizing to a more fuel efficient car but we’ll see.

It’s tempting with my tundra. But it’s a 2015 with 105k trouble free miles and it’s paid for. So I will probably keep it and just keep piling the miles on. The maintenance is all up to date and the truck runs great.

This is kind of my thinking. I am waiting to see a viable Hybrid/electric option and see what happens from there. I have 0 desire to buy new right now anyways, so it kind of works out.

Also, I like not having a payment.

To answer the original post, it's foolish and a poor financial decision to want to sell a truck you're happy with, when you don't have a clue what other vehicle you'd get (and it would be priced much higher than usual) just because all used vehicles' book values are up. Don't fall for this trap.

This. I wouldn't be selling it now at its zenith with a new frame and suspension, while it can be momentarily tempting..besides the need to purchase another vehicle, nobody really makes a single cab anymore that I would want.

    0 transmission
    0 ECU "tune"
    0 smog check
    0 need for skid plates
0 need for most maintenance BS (fluids, filter, plug, break pads)
0 need to worry about oil getting into cylinders when climbing steep hills off road.
0 worry about flooding engine after roll over
0 worry about snorkels for dust or water intake
0 t-case , so no worry about 4 high/ low getting stuck (no need to do FJ t-case nightmare swap)
0 need for towing accessories like tranny coolers or gearing (no 2wd "low range mod" like a weird-O)
0 need for locker (no differentials for some EVs) or need to re-gear
0 worry about locking dogs in car while you shop
0 arguments on internet about 0W vs 5W oil or 91 vs 87 octane
