When I was there it made for a very strange visit. This mtB cAPitAl oF the WoRLd but not a single local rider or builder. A much different culture than any other MTB destination in America

    Yeah.
I think there are a few local companies that do trail builds both locally and all over the US. Progressive Trail Design I know is local. I think they experiment with stuff here, and things are always changing. The local FB groups for each of the trail systems are very active, lots of volunteers, and there's a Wednesday night organized ride. Granted, I have not joined one of those rides, and they seem to vary in size, but usually seems to be about 15 - 20 riders. But again, it's not a huge town and does have great trails that a lot of people like to visit, so running into locals is a bit rare.

I prefer the back-country type trails over the heavily-groomed stuff, but it is nice to have options. Luckily the ones they put in by me are the hand-cut style I prefer, and I think I can get from there to the Back 40 without a lot of paved trail in between.

If I'm being honest, it has been a while since I have gotten on the bike. I am now vaccinated, though, so I don't fear being out with sweaty people breathing hard.

i'd love to know how it holds up. I love that color :D

I picked up this Giant Revel last year as a beginner/beater bike for XC and light MTB and eventually want to upgrade. The polygon offerings are really tempting...

Excellent! I was very close to buying a Polygon this year. Had it in the cart and CC# entered but never hit the button. I was leaning towards the Vander T7 but wanted to try and ride something to compare a 27.5 to 29. I like that they have come out with the 2021 stuff, still may end up getting something at some point.

Let us know how it rides after you get some time on it!

I’ve really enjoyed this bike so far. Has been fun to ride wherever I go, road, canal roads, river trails and some MTB trails. Hoping to do some longer rides in the next few months on it and an over night ride or two.

Brought this home yesterday. A huge difference from my mid-90s Cannondale and 2004 Gary Fisher. Wasn't even looking for FS but rode it around at the shop and loved it.

That's a sweet bike! I'm a fan of how Salsa does most of their colors, simple with a little bit of flash

@113tac thank you! It’s been fun to ride. I went on a longer ride this Monday, 35 miles and climbed 2500’, including road, gravel and MTB trails. Really enjoyed the ride, as i normally do the majority of the ride on my Cervelo S2, but went on this and added in the fun part. I love how it climbs, easy spinning and just goes. I’ll do a ride we call Around the Mountain at some point, should be 75 miles and over 5k in elevation that is mostly pavement, but has 6-7 miles of unimproved gravel climbing about 2k elevation. Should be fun!

    Oh, I can play now:
Finally retired an old Mongoose Sector and picked up a Polygon Siskiu T7 in 27.5. Above is how it looks now that I've changed / added some touches to it. Hated the grips and found some PNW ones that matched perfectly. Also, set the tires up tubeless and I have a new seat coming, then it'll be done for a bit. Night and day difference from the old bike. I still can't believe how much of a difference modern geometry and suspension makes (especially since I'm not an aggressive rider).

@Pugga sweet bike! I took my Stumpy out for her maiden voyage this morning, coming from a 14yo 26” hard tail…..night and day with running full suspension! I was amazed by the feel. I’m not an MTB rider, I’ve dabbled over the years, but have biked and this year spent more time on the trails, but it’s pretty sweet to get to ride stuff like this!

Enjoy that bike! Love the touches you added to it!

Awesome! It really is amazing how far these new bikes have come. I`m definitely enjoying it, only 2 rides in and about 20 miles so far with another ride planned this weekend. Good just to get out and start getting back in shape again also. Covid crushed my soccer league so this is the new obsession.

    ok,
now for the older, basic, MTB fans. picked up off FB marketplace for $150.00.
2000 Cannondale "Bud Light" promo/giveaway bike.
based of 2000 M400, last year for a full rigid Cannondale mountain bike.
Deore XT/Deore 9 speed, rest is off the shelf Cannondale Coda stuff.
except for a few very minor scratches/chips this bad boy is pristine. barely ridden by prev. owner.
added the Maxxis Holy Rollers and vintage WAM platform pedals.
freed up the sticky rapid fires, serviced the headset, lubed the chain-good to go.
six months into recovery from total shoulder replacement surgery so figured i'd ease back into it.
felt good just initially ridin' through the hood.

Fortunate in these crazy times to get my new 2021 Yeti SB115 from my LBS 2 weeks ago. Bike is AWESOME for my application here in the Midwest. I am extremely happy with the performance so far in the first 150 miles of singletrack after getting the suspension dialed in. Couple small mods I did right away: absolute black oval chainring and frame protection tape from WilderWild. Highly recommend these “downcountry” bikes for sure. final incarnation.
Fairdale BMX bars, Sunday BMX stem. little more upright position for leisurely rides. kept all the stock bits.

    IMG_6746.jpg IMG_6748.jpg
Sunday i stumbled upon this locally.
91 Stumpjumper Comp. ridden a total of six miles since purchased new. full XT grouppo, thumbies, canti brakes, crankset, hubs, all early XT. pretty much brand new. original owner added the more upright/shorter stem at the shop before he took it home. seat cover had come unglued in a couple of spots, so took it off till repaired. love the matte gray paint. rides like a new bike. vintage fever has hit me again.

two fb marketplace finds this week, latest one about two hours ago. guess i'm a GT guy now.
the timberline was scored for $60. 18" frame, full LX grouppo, a nice bike with some cosmetic flaws. new skins and away i went. rides like a dream.
1997 GT LTS-2. XT/LX grouppo. cosmetically dirty, garage queen. $75.00, couldn't pass it up.
