Camelback Subaru played a game like this with the wife and I a few years ago.
Said they had the EXACT car we wanted... come on down.... had us there for hours
asking this asking that going on and on and on finally got to the brass tacks and well
they didn't have it, but it was in TUCSON and they would deliver it the next day.

Then they went on about how another dealer charged an extra $800 so they were going
to go ahead and add that on too...

Mind you I had the EXACT car I wanted at Peoria, for a firm price and as we were walking out
they came running back ' Oh we found it... we are pulling it up to the front door for you' ...

Turns out the color was wrong AND it wasn't the Premium model, just the standard. They were shoving
the paperwork in front of me wanted me to sign before looking at it but I pushed out the door and
saw it was the standard model.

I went back in, and in front of the Managers desk called Peoria - and made sure everyone in that place
heard me as I said "YEA, I'm on the way, these IDIOTS at CAMELBACK lied to me and tried to pull one
over on me.. I'll be right there"

Peoria had the car, at the price we chatted about ( out the door price ) and we couldn't be happier with
    the Subaru.

Send me a PM tell me who your sales dude was at Toyota - I'll let my sales dude ( cool guy ) know what
happened and I'll see if he can do anything.

I tried to put a deposit on mine, they wouldn't take it... ended up getting it a few hours later tho and damn glad I did.

Had this happen at Woods fun center in Austin a few years ago. After driving an hour down there they said they sold the bike on sale to another person and I could buy another bike but more expensive. I told them they could fuck themselves and bought a bike somewhere else.

ALL Dealers suck! When buying my Tacoma, the first dealer I went to had all the paperwork in finance ready to go when I got there. Brought my certified cashiers check from a very large well known bank to pay for it. Guy looks at it, puts it back down in front of me and says we don’t accept these! He said you can write a personal check. LOL! A certified check as good as cash wasn’t good enough for them but a personal check that could bounce tomorrow is accepted. Bunch of clowns. I got up, laughed and said, I’m sorry I didn’t know you guys didn’t like money around here and left. Next dealer I went to took it as fast as I could show it to them. Can’t make this stuff up. Crazy dealers out there.

Key thing was for them to take the money. If they did that it’s harder to argue. That was the out for them. but all the paperwork did they out the vehicle Vin and all that in?

Camelback had a tundra pro listed, I clicked on the interested tab etc, got an email later that night clarifying that the price online didn’t reflect the $10k demand charge on top of that price. I emailed back not interested.

2 weeks later the exact day I made a deposit on ordering a pro else where, I get a call from there sales depart if I was still interested, I said no as stated before hand the demand charge was a turn off and not interested at those prices, for a good 2 mins they played as if they had no idea what the demand charge was and that it was msrp etc, I left it as well that’s not what I was told and moved on with my money and remained not interested.

That's the way to do it, f'it. Give your money to a dealer at least not looking to jerk you around. I called multiple dealers around MA for a off-road or Pro Tacoma order...some quotes me $10k markup on MSRP for a pro and I just laughed and kept going down the list. Eventually found someone dealing MSRP and dropped a deposit blast week.

That’s sucks man! It must be miserable for them being in a profession where you constantly have to lie to people to make a living. Sad. Never met an “honest” dealer yet. Just have to pick the ones that lie the least lol.

    Sucks.

Internet sales are the worst IMO. My wife and I were looking at a new 4Runner a year ago. I contacted local dealers and one stated they had the model we wanted at the best price. Similar play, after about an hour of waiting, they didn’t have the truck and we bailed.

My wife was so annoyed, she decided to just buy another Pilot.

If I were to buy another vehicle using a service like Truecar, I’d demand the dealer to bring out the car first, before I stepped into the dealership building.

FWIW, my new ‘21 Tacoma purchase was smooth and easy (different dealer).

Well, after reading this I’ve changed my direction. I’d just sent in a request about one of their vehicles (4Runner)……not now.

Not all are bad. The folks at Peoria Subaru were straight-up and stand-up people.
    I'd buy from them again.

Flew from Mississippi to Atlanta once to buy a Jeep Patriot. The deal I made via the Internet Dude
was true, and as I was signing the paperwork the finance guy says to me wait, there's a new rebate
happening today and knocked off another $500.

So it's easy to lump all of them into the slime-ball lane, and I'm sure with the shortages going on
working there must be like jumping into a pool of starving sharks with fresh-cut-chickens tied around
you neck. Then again, anyone who wants a decent paying job can get one... so like Hyman Roth said
to Michael Corleone: "This is the business we've chosen..."

I had a great experience dealing with the internet sales guy Nigel at Earnhardt Toyota in Mesa. The Camelback dealers are the worst. I was trying to buy a Mustang once from Camelback Ford and I was told "come on down, we have that vehicle on the lot." I go down there, we walk around and it wasn't there. They lowballed me on my trade so I told them no and sold it myself. Then we make a deal online and over the phone on a black Premium that had 23k miles on it. But the deal was contigent on me seeing it and test driving it. I had already sold my truck. So I take an Uber from North Peoria all the way down there and I look it over, looks good. I'm test driving it and really liking it. Then all of a sudden I look down and the odometer says 42000 miles. I look over at the salesman and ask "what the hell is that? What's this 42k??" He looked clueless and didn't have an answer. Sales manager says "our bad, somebody had fat fingers on the keyboard. But whats the big deal..What's the difference $500? We can knock that off." I had to get an Uber all the way back home, which the salesman said they'd pay for but of course didn't. Another dealer I'll never step foot in again!

I also did, I dealt with Michelle Lugo, and had an agreed upon price prior to walking in, showed up with my check and signed some paperwork and was out in well under an hour, everything Exactly as agreed upon. They also gave me the best price in the southwest. I had emailed nearly 100 dealerships with what I was willing to pay, they got the truck from flagstaff the day before I went up. Granted, this was in 2019 but I would certainly use them again.
