Anyone have any recommendations on an OEM 'like' head unit, but aftermarket? I'm talking more like looking OEM but having features of what the aftermarket brings (apple carplay, etc.). I have a pretty decent system... everything is aftermarket except my head unit and the main reason for that is i don't want my system to 'look' aftermarket. I don't need a big screen and no buttons/knobs.

However, i'm getting really tired of the OEM head unit bass booster thing where at low volumes it compensates the bass signal which overdrives my subwoofer. I think aftermarket is the only way to get around this.

Hey Gkomo, I was in a similar place you’re in. I have a 300 watt kicker amp running KS 6x9s in the front, Subaru dash tweeters and kicker ks 6.75s in the rear powered by an alpine power pack. I have a kicker rt 10 powered by an alpine 500 watt amp all using factory head unit. Sound was really good, but still missing more fine tuning/better quality bass.

I just replaced my head unit with a 9” joying unit I purchased on eBay. It looks completely stock until you turn it on. I only got to test the sound quality out briefly, but I can already tell in my setup this is significantly better.

If you want more information let me know, for the price i can’t think you can beat it.

Ya man, thanks for the reply. Have a photo of the new head unit installed?
