From the shake shake shake to this? Will I ever get it all figured it out?

If you have read my shake shake shake plea for ideas. This is a continuation of my efforts to get the shake out of my new 2012 Tacoma. Well here is the latest with everything that has been done already considered.

What I am noticing now I would describe as a bad carriage bearing or u-joint feel. But can't be that or should I say is very unlikely as it is all new Spicer offerings.

Im thinking maybe something to do with the 3rd member? But DONT KNOW!! The symptoms are what feels a bit like a bump just before I stop in traffic. And the same about a 1/2 sec in the drive train as I take off. Well like I said it feels like a bad carrage bearing. Any ideas?

    Many thanks!

And yes I still have the shake going on from 72 - 78mph.

Dude we like ya but you don't have to start a new thread for every new development. Just keep posting in the first shake thread you started

You can update the thread title and tell us if you're narrowing things down, etc

    Could you elaborate?

If it is helpful, I have had the truck for about three weeks now. It has 202,000 miles on it. It had a very worn carriage bearing and decent u-joints. All were replaced with Spicer Life offerings. Other than that, the usual services, Oil & filter, tranny fluid filter, and rear end dope replaced. Tire rotation and balance took 90% of the shakeout of the truck. So I'm down to the other 5% and the driveline tump questioned here.

    Thank you for the input.

I just looked for examples of AXLE WRAP, and you nailed it as to the description of how it feels. Is this common in a 2wd? I know the complete history of this Tacoma and it has never been off-road or abused even in the slightest.

What is the process or repair or the FIX if this happens to be the culprit?
Could this be the shake I can't seem to get out?

Yes, it’s common on the 6 lug trucks.
The fix is better leaf springs. I choose to live with it.
I have a very mild case of it myself.
There isn’t technically anything wrong with the truck.
But it can be annoying if you let it.

Then again, like I said mine is a very mild case.

Get new springs, the factory ones are crap. I noticed a huge difference when I bolted in a new leaf pack.

New issue, new thread, get used to it. I do this kind of stupid $hit all the time. I don't think I'll live long enough to get good at it.

Any references to the favored LEAF PACK brands and configurations? Cost etc?

    Thanks for the info.

I bolted in the Icon leaf pack. It comes with an extra leaf so you can adjust the lift and load capacity to meet your needs. There are other brands that are popular here. Old man emu is another,I'm sure others can comment on the ones they used.

Yeah, I am beginning to realize how much time and effort has been devoted to Tacoma's where shake and the like are concerned. I was just reading about a carrier-bearing drop spacer made just over the hill from me. It is said to help with driveshaft shake. It's cheap enough to try, but I'm not sure if it in intended for stock rigs or lifted only.

As far as the Leaf Packs go. I guess what I would be looking for would be an improvement or solution for the load-up issue while keeping as much ride comfort as possible. I don't plan on pulling a trailer any bigger than my lawnmowers 5'X10'. Thanks for the suggestions.

I actually found several very helpful Youtube videos that actually showed Axle Wrap happening. Again I think this is exactly what I am experiencing. I can plainly see the amount of forward inertia that is lost with each stop and go. There is no telling the gas consumption savings and holeshot improvement one might experience with this corrected.

Take my truck for instance. It is a Prerunner and the hardest off-roading it will see are the pastures where we hog hunt and the hole filled dirt roads near my home. Given this, I would choose a package more for on-road comfort than off-road ability improvement. After all, unless I miss my guess the issue is how to make the springs stiff enough to stop the warp but still ride comfortably.

With all of this considered, my question is, how much effort does it take to locate a proper aftermarket replacement set for a particular application? Are there well-reviewed packages from reliable vendors that take the brunt of the guesswork out of it?

You said that the Ujoints have been replaced. Possibly the driveshaft was reinstalled out of phase. Check this video and check out your driveshaft installation.

Thanks for the thought but sure of this not being the case unless it has been out of time since before I took ownership. The driveshaft was mapped (marked for position) by the prior owner, and I mean marked!. They had a paint line starting at the 3rd member and ran the entire way to the tail shaft of the transmission. I just watched the video and I will check my driveline phasing. Thank you,

I'm reluctant to offer...... did you toss a wheel weight? for the high speed issue.

Sometimes, the wheels need to be balance in 2 planes. Think outside edge and inside edge. This is to solve what is called "lateral imbalance".
