That’s a good suggestion. Jasper has no stock. So far my options are from cheapest to most expensive:
    • Local wrecking yard 138k miles from a 4Runner. No maintenance history 3 month parts only warranty
    • Mystery eBay rebuilt Kar King 6 month parts only warranty
    • JDM engine claimed 60k miles 1year parts only warranty
    • Performance engines or Toyota truck engines rebuilt 3 year parts + $75/hr labor warranty (my friend got one from performance for his tundra recently and is already having to replace the rear main seal in under 8 months)

I’ve got to have a shop do it. Losing my garage space this week. Lots of risk with making the wrong choice; decision paralysis.

I opted for what I thought was safest and quickest solution for me....
I bought just the short block remanufactured.....from someone who could do em blindfolded they've done so many....2yr wnty...

Then I went with a new head...thicker and improved 36 mo wnty......and then had my mechanic put humpty's many pieces back together...I hand selected all the timing parts, header studs, ect....even new flex plate and headers...some LC engineering stuff...

Local mech at final assy - another level of quality check........anyone can make a mistake....just gave him another $100 tip for getting new motor past the 3K mark.....

Purrs like a kitten...cant even tell the engine is on when idling when the blower is on low........that was definitely NOT the case before.....previous idled rough and burn gas.....terrible gas mileage with head gasket leak....occasional no start...

Find the shop you want to do the work and see what your options are with them. Some of them will probably not touch used/eBay/JDM engines. Some of them will.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
    This is 100% spot on!!!

Since your paying to have this done I wonder when do you hit the point of no return ??

I am just saying some time the money might be better spent investing in a running truck and move this one to a parts vehicle .

As I get older and the body no longer moves like it did when I was in my forties 20 years ago. I think about this option.

Yeah I found the mechanic First.....then started the strategy.....

My boss had a V8 mustang engine completely rebuilt by these guys....
but it took em months while they gathered all the do dads to do it..
I did not have months or the massive $$$..... so I asked him if he would even consider the reman short block and new heads route..before I ordered ANYTHING...

I know I was taking some of his money/work away and giving him the risk of using other peoples work......reason I made sure they got a little extra in the end....
