2LM PnP - Plug and play 2WD low range for the 3rd gen. Tacoma

Anyone wire up this switch overhead and tap into the illumination circuit so the lettering comes on with the lights instead of always on? Thinking about grabbing one of kmorgan's overhead harnesses.

I think I know what I need to do, but if you can share how I need to tap in I'd appreciate. Probably going to tackle this tomorrow.

 

I have no idea what wires are broken out on the PnP harness you have as I didn't supply it. In general, all you need to do is connect the ILL- from the truck to the Ground wire on the switch. If you're using a CH4x4 switch, it's the black wire. Ignore the description for pin 3 (red2) as dimming on these trucks is done on ground side. That can either take ILL+ if you care to splice it in, or just leave it as-is.

 

What I was really looking for was the pinout for what you are supplying. If it matches the CH4x4 layout there, then I should be good.

The harness just has ILL+/- broken out, so if I snip wires 3/4 and splice mine it we should be green.

 

The 2lm harness works with the CH4x4 switch. Yes it matches.

 

@TheCochese you’ll be ok with that plan but you can also wait and do a switch illumination injector. Male and female JAE to feed the switch terminals through and divert illumination to your alternate tap. I should have photos in my build thread. Super easy to build for you if you’d rather not slice up the 2lm harness itself. I didn’t want to since it seemed like such a fine piece.

The males can be infuriating but the females less so.

My point was you can go back and do the illumination after the fact if you don’t want to cut and you want to do the install right now. Then Kyle or I send you the stuff you need. If your tap has bare wire it’s easy to marry up. I settled on 2 pin JST so I can use Y splitters to daisy chain.

 

I do have Kyle's overhead harness, that's what I'm tapping into. I also have a couple of the daisy chains unused. I've just been up too long at this point to know what I'm doing for sure.

After a false start, I think I have everything done correctly. I decided to use a spare Molex connector that I had about.

So here's an extremely stupid question. When I was young, and dumb, and had a Jeep, I certainly experienced what driveline bind felt like. I don't know if I have anywhere close by I can test this offroad. Any driveway test I could do outside of bringing all four wheels off the ground?
