Got a "check engine light". Code is "cylinder 3 air/fuel ratio"

Took it to local dealer who has evaluated it and says "good news, bad news". Seems I am int removing the head, which involves removing the engine, which involves a week in the shop. The good news is that they are doing the work under warranty.

The same dealership has another Tacoma in for the same issue, the service writer says stuck valve...kind of vague, but I will get a better description of the problem once they get the head off.

Anyone hear of this issue? We've put close to a million miles on Toyota cars and trucks, and this is the first mechanical failure for us.

A simple looky loo on the Google can save you from giving wrong info.

It's all good, though. Looks like OP is covered.

Well, in my defense they only advertise 36/36k in their advertising. Ooops on me.

Read the fine print, never trust advertisements or what is ever said in person.

Same thing with your insurance, jobsite quotes, etc.... Read the fine print, question ambiguity. It is written that way to give you a false sense of security.

My two young adult kids are learning this everyday as well. I have them read the paperwork so they know, and not just trust what is said.

that is my belief as well. Seems like a "stuck valve" would involve serious damage to the valve train. I experienced no loss of power, change in fuel economy or other outward sign of any issue beyond the light coming on.

Vac. leak, injector issue more likely. What is the "P" code?

did nit see a "p" code, just the words in the first post. The "diagnosis" is what has been conveyed to me by the service writer, he further stated that "parts have been ordered" to replace the head..

Removing the engine to pull a head? On a plebian truck? That's just sad.

I ran into that on the DS head on a 428 Cyclone CJ once due to shock tower proximity. And I'm sure there are other overstuffed examples in performance vehicles.

    Just hard to imagine here.........

Air fuel ratio imbalance codes are mega hard to diag.

Typically I lean torwards the DI injector. We're still learning how to diag these efficiently . We have seen valve seals loosen off and cause issues as well.

You have to monitor the cylinder and turn it to DI only.

Most with these trucks won’t run into a problem like this. I feel bad for the few that have major issues, but probably no worse than the other brands. I hope dealer gets you back up and running. I’m pleased with my Tacoma. After 52K haven’t had anything other than a replacement battery.
