You don't need one on your truck if you're just driving along the beach and camping right there. If you take your truck into the dunes area you will need one. OHV's need them no matter where.

Yup. Here is a map of the place. It mentions the whip and flag in the rules and regulations. Your going to have a great time. There limiting the amount of camping units to 150 compared to 1000 so it's not crazy packed.

I have the cheap XBull boards, cost was $56 shipped a year ago. They held up fine for the two days they were under the front end, no warping.

I’m definitely looking forward to going!
Thanks for sharing that map. I ended up ordering a whip and flag anyway just in case I get tempted to go into the dunes. Although probably not a great idea on my stock tires haha

A long time ago, I was stationed at Sault Ste Marie, MI for a short while. The Superior coastline on the US side was pretty nice. Never got to explore the Canadian side. Looking forward to your pics!

To be accurate, this is fortified artillery position -part of coast defense system. You see cannon installation platform base.
One of my grandfathers, former Soviet Marines officer was fighting in Northern front with nazis. He won.

Yes, this was one of the 4 gun emplacements with the bunkers and trenches in the background. Evidently as the Nazis lost ground in Finland and northern Norway they instituted a scorched earth policy of burning crops, buildings, etc. Nasty

4402 and McGrew were a little south of where our route started. These shots were from 1376 (Chetco River) near Snow Camp LO and 3318 (Wildhorse). I’d like to give McGrew a try some day but not without at least another vehicle and preferably somebody with more technical experience.

Hit us up sometime! Our club typical runs the fire road or McGrew (been iffy if open lately) twice a year down into Sourdough campsite. Ran it many times. :D

We like it, gets us off the ground but without spending thousands for a rtt setup. You can unbuckle the tent from the truck and it will freestand at camp while you wheel in the truck. We paid $165 for the backroadz model.

When you pull it out of the truck and leave it at camp can you do it with your bedding in there or do you need to remove everything first? The poles that rear on the bed rails must rest on the ground when you pull it out and set it on the ground. Do you just tuck the extra tent material under? Is there a way to peg it down so it can’t blow away while you are gone?

Boy Scouts no we were Girl Scout leaders for 17 years and Christie was an outdoor educator. My back can’t handle tents anymore so we settled on the camper
