That’s awesome. My pitch rod has a 6000 ‘Gosa on it, now I feel ashamed of myself.

Time before last I was offshore we trolled for Mahi and did fine, but when bottom fishing the boat was surrounded with schoolies. They wouldn’t bite anything I offered, plastic or dead.

I was bottom fishing just outside of Atlantic City killing seabass, I noticed two 4’ Mahi behind the boat. They hit nothing I threw or dropped.

Last night was a very good night, my wife and I caught roughly 11 citation drum and a slot drum on the beach…. All by ourselves (that’s impressive in itself anymore). I’ve experienced many big bites, but this is her first. Just about every cast you were getting bit, the bluefish had the mullet jumping up on the sand and occasionally they’d be jumping in our face while fighting a fish, every step you had a mullet or blue knocking up against your leg. Hell, my wife even got bit by a blue  It was a hell of a night, and the kind of sleepless night I’ve needed since the baby was born. Here’s just a few, most are of the wife though. And of course a picture of the drummy taco.

    Good night? Incredible night!

This looks like some of the fishing folks do out by the cabins on Portsmouth Island. But I’ve never heard of them tearing into old drum like this…

Oh they do but it’s one of those “if you know, you know” kinda deals. March and November are prime months. We plan on taking a trip there next fall.

First catch in a while! It's been so hot out here in Socal the bite is tough from the banks. It was 55 when I got out today so I'm guessing that helped.

Did it again. I got 3 (no pictures) the wife got one, estimating 46-48”, her biggest yet. Still sitting on the sand, waiting for the tide to turn and some more fish to move in hopefully. False fall is my favorite season other than the real fall, everything comes alive.

Done right, they’re actually pretty tasty. We bleed them as soon as they’re caught and soak them in buttermilk for a while to get the bloody fishy taste out and either fry them or make fish salad.

Ever caught a spawning salmon a little past silver? Great smokers, not great fresh eaters.

Bluefish: Bleed ‘em. Keep ‘em ice cold. Cut away spongy dark meat from fillet, cook and eat the same day as caught.
Done right, they are good eating.

I’ve had them 1lb up to 13lbs. That butter milk does wonders. As mentioned above, preparation makes a huge difference in taste. Granted a blue is near the bottom of my list of fish I’ll kill to eat, but they can be good. I won’t eat them out of warm water though. Upper 60s is about the max temp I’d eat them out of.
