Maintenance Required Notification

After the first few oil changes (20K) I have done my own servicing but want eliminate the Maintenance Required notification when starting the vehicle. I can remove it for the short term but on every initial start it's back. I thought I could remove it with my OBD reader but no luck. I know there's probably a program to do it but is it worth the cost? or keep over riding it every start up? Tks TW

 

The owners manual will tell you the proceedure

 

From my experience that won't fully do it. What works for me is:

-- Trip meter on Trip A.
-- Turn Off the Taco.
-- While pushing and holding the Trip Reset stalk, turn the Taco On.
-- Continue holding until the dot countdown is complete and the reset message pops up.

Frankly...........my owner's manual is still in a box. Somewhere.

I was punching all the display screen stuff, no luck.............I'm getting frustrated.............walk in the house and this thread was the first one that popped up, and just bone easy.

 

You got to like it when it works like that.

 

I can confirm that the above process works for Toyota Highlander's as well. I'm guessing all late-model Toyota's use the same procedure.

Quick side-rant here: I wish all the manufacturers could come-up with a standard for this. Each manufacturer has their own procedure. On my Silverado I have to turn the ignition on (without starting the engine) then work the gas pedal six times in 30 seconds. The first-time I read that I thought it was a joke.

Most Toy's have had this reset option for a while.

I just had to go through this myself recently. Not sure if the above method requires the engine to be running and then shut down, but here’s a bit more detail on button pressing for simpletons like me:

Press engine start button twice. Press trip button until you get to trip A. Press start button once. Press and hold in trip reset - At same time, press start button twice.

 

I really liked my 2001 tundra on this...nothing had to be done. Thats the way it should be.

 

No need for the engine to be running. Like you notes, you just need to get to Ignition On.
