Fitting 35’s with minimal trimming NOW ADDING LONG TRAVEL AND 934 CV’s

i’ve always just used a spare piece of same OD tubing in the can while welding

 

You guys having issues with the inner fenders?? All you do is just show up on a Saturday with this:

So easy a caveman can do it.

I wonder if an aluminum insert while welding it would help keep it true. Something similar to this.

Some guys are saying they use slugs and it’s still a bitch. I saw a video with Morgan Clarke where he talked about this as well. Said something about not welding near the bottom of the can is the best way.

 

You make one of these... you CAN NOT use a slug, it will NEVER come out. Even with this you need to use a long barrel sander to tune it in... no problems here

 

That looks like an expandable slug essentially? Put it in, tighten the bolt and it expands, then undo it when done? Nifty.

Ok, so how does a guy at home do it that doesn’t have the equipment to build such tool? Just trying to get my education in before I start lol.

 

Don’t weld towards the bottom of the can and you will be fine. Also don’t tig weld the as they will warp badly

 

I don't think I ever showed you guys this. If anybody remembers that I hit a cross ditch super hard a while back, the sheet metal from my fender sliced through my tire. I clearanced them for the 37s so there was around .5-.75" of room at full stuff (no bump stops). Still managed to put a slice in my tire around an inch deep. Just goes to show how much these frames twist and flex. Really really need to do an engin cross over between the coil buckets.

 

This is why fiberglass is better.....just explode your fender instead of jacking up your tire........not exactly sure which is better to be honest.....lmao

 

Hell of a trip we just finished. On that, who makes a better steering rack for 3rd gens? Probably skipped more teeth again.

BTW, Lockhart Basin road is NOT what it was a year ago as in most of the videos out there.

 

Welcome to the research project. I think the basikbiker tundra rack swap is the only really successful option right now...the JDF slide rack doesn't fit with the oil filter on the 3rd gens.

Am I supposed to run washers with the UCA gussets? Seems like it has a bit of gap for one

 

I don’t have any washers on mine anywhere. I think I used washers while doing the fitting and welding to add a tiny gap to make installing and removing the uca easier but I don’t remember for sure.

 

I don’t see a way around it on mine at least. An outside washer right next to the gusset makes a perfect fit. I have the rubber bushing UCAs though. Just thought I’d check around
