Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I would like these older style wheel bearings rather then the new style with the sealed press in bearings.

Perhaps I could look into adapting old style steering knuckles in theory as I have enough to do all ready

    Excellent post and pictures!

Despite being overseas stuff, Raybestos makes some good stuff! I run their disk brake stuff on anything I replace when I can!

    Thanks man!

Usually when I get pads/shoes I get Wagner.
I don't think that you can buy a US made wheel cylinder for anything anymore. Thought it was funny that it took a metric wrench, makes sense from the manufacturing standpoint, it is a brand new casting - why not use a common bleeder screw.

I was thankful that they were easily available, only about $15/side.

I've found with the "current situation" if you have something older you can likely source parts. Can only guess there was already a decent stock laying around. However you do have to be crafty in cross referencing. Key in point my little beater Talon. Chrysler used that front end (engine cradle and suspension area, Neon and Stratus's of that era were remarkably similar) and engine on different models in that era so if you can sorta figure out what parts can work for what, especially the engine. Electrical parts can be crossed as well, but might require a repair harness (plug) and a wiring diagram (or re-pin the connector), but hey it'll get you running again. I'm not smart, but frugal and crafty!

Fortunately this is just an old full size Ford they made lots of them over lots of years so engine (289),transmission (C4) and brake/suspension parts are no problem -- anything that has to do with the station wagon part of the car however -- unobtainium. :(

Probably just a bit smaller. ;)

What kind of Cushman? I have spent some time working on/driving/hanging on for dear life on some Cushmans.

Cole and I went hunting yesterday, saw 9 deer, none had horns though. Saw this rainbow, no rain though.

He can shoot 4 does, we don’t need any meat though. He’s after horns ;)

Later in the season I may let him pinch on a doe or two and we’ll donate them. The local butcher will take the whole deer and process it and give the meat away.

Hunted all weekend, saw 5 deer none with horns. It's so dern hot here and the waters so high, by the time I walk in I'm all hot n bothered.

Personally I love the new Tundras. My wife was not as excited to see I was looking at new trucks

I remember the X's well, my dad had a 84 Citation I learned on..had a couple of Chevy Celebrities in college too. Seemed like the rears were also more prone to water penetration and rust, one of my Celebs would try to lock em up the first time of the day

That was a great post with pictures. I just ordered wheel cylinders for a 1983 Oldsmobile. $.97 each. Yep, 97 cents lol. I can tell one is leaking but purchased 2. Ordered some other hardware and spark plugs total with shipping just under $19.00
Yes, excellent post and I learned about self energizing drum brakes in HS shop class. I didn't forget that like I did Bi-metal spring and how they work.

97 cents! GM parts are always cheaper I guess. You can't even get a burger for that anymore. :pout:

We used to put kits in wheel cylinders, 4 rubber parts and a spring. You used a 3 stone hone on a drill motor to clean up the bore. -- Heck with that...

Yep, I've done that before too. So many of these parts are just dirt cheap. I figure most of these old cars went to the scrap yard years ago. And oldsmobile even though sharing parts with other GM's is no longer a brand.

Sad too, Oldsmobile was a good brand. Back in the day before "corporate engines" (GM had some lawsuits over that) the Olds engines had their own exhaust sound, with a louder muffler you could pick out an Olds idling in the dark.

When I was a kid the older lady across the street had a 1962 Olds 98 with the 394 Sky Rocket engine and dual exhaust. We would hear the 394 bark to life and come running out to the street. She would reverse chug, chug, chug onto the street, drop it in drive and plant her right foot. The back of that big car would drop and she would rocket down the street. :rocket: (see what I did there )

Years later she told me "I always like to step right down and move right out".

Thinking about it now, I knew every engine on the block.

(No, this is not the inside of the 66 Ford!)

I'm betting many folks will know what the round button below the parking brake does even if they never used one -- but what is the funny looking little pedal between the parking brake and the steering column for??
