I don't think I've ever seen that pedal but I'm wondering if it's like some of the old GM trucks had something to do with starter?

Goodmorning crew. I'm just getting ready to go over to my mother's place where she rents. Surprisingly my sister is going to meet me there and help. It's about a hour five for both of us. Mom had a heart attack and then a stint put in a couple weeks ago. Now she's back in hospital with infection.
My family and even myself the past 10 years haven't gone to see her much. Mainly because of how dirty it is. Well I've been over there cleaning yesterday and now the bug infestation is unbelievable. I'm taking advantage of bug bomb yesterday and some cleaning. Maybe a repeat today. (More bug bombs before I leave).
From the hospital, tentatively on Tuesday going to assisted living for awhile to get her strength back.
    I better get going.
    Have a good day.

Fine way to start a Monday, cousin brought this by Saturday off his tree feller after trying to get these bolts out himself. Broken easy out in one :D

After going through them with a 1/4” carbide end mill they both came right out :bananadance:

    Morning guys

I plan on spending my day looking for and calling about rental houses with zero luck just like every other day.
I’ve been doing this since February so I’m actually pretty good at it now!

I'm wondering if that foot button on those old GM vehicles engaged the starter gear?
    Before a solenoid?

This is the first firetruck from the town I live in. The charter members of the FD built it from what they had, it's a Chevrolet. About 20 years ago they restored it, I rebuilt the water tank for them. It has the push button starter in the floor board, next to the gas pedal. It's a challenge to push the button and pump the gas.

Not the starter, that button was adjacent to or under the accelerator. This is a 1959 Ford by the way, although this design was used into the late 1960s by several manufacturers.

Prayers for your mom and you too.

I don't believe the foot pedal jobs used a solenoid.
Some of them mechanically engaged the starter gear and then closed a heavy duty switch that passed the full starter current.
Others used just the HD switch and a inertia drive (Bendix) to engage the gear.

Older tractors like my International 140 used the same style HD push switch, a bear to push by hand due to the location, mine now has a key switch and a solenoid.

Or at least a winning lottery ticket, that would cover it nicely. :D

Chevrolet called those smooth looking new post war trucks "Advance Design", replaced by the "Task Force" series in 1955.
So nice to work on, not a computer in sight.

Looks like it's on a pivot. Does it turn the headlights for when you go around a curve?
