I know a few tacomas that fucked up stock springs offroading with a block spacer, one of them currently is almost inverted on 3 year old springs.

Leaf springs suck, you can remove the lift block and see if a dealer will warranty it.

I will see if they will warranty it with the lift block, they have installed lift spacers at dealer for me before, i see the tech on Wednesday, see what he thinks of all of this. For the moment ive ordered aals that can be returned worst case

I wouldn't rule out the 3" front spacer lift. 2" rear block? Can't be good for the rear end!

5100's are great for the price. Keep in mind that Bilstein recommends you stay with the OEM coils.

So, today i did a bit of testing.

Took the truck out on the freeway, rode at 110kms per hour, was very smooth, whenever id hit a dip or small bump the rear would shake to recover. I had a quarter tank of gas.

Everywhere else, i would feel the shudder from the rear and undermy seat on bumps and dips only.

I filled the tank, and when i pulled out onto the road i had a bit of bouncing and was quite a bit worse, it did it a lot more often going down the road and at lower rpms... Im really suspecting leafs now

Suspension is pretty simple. Spring to support weight, shock to control spring movement. Jump in the rear bumper of your truck and jump off. If it bounces more than once before settling you need better quality shock or have a dead spot or defective one. Spring steel fatigues (and can break) but it doesnt really bend and stay bent that I've ever seen.

Tldr: more spring may be counterintuitive if your shocks arent up to the task right now.

When you say bouncing, are you referring to suspension bounce, or shuttering of the truck like it’s out of balance? I’m aware that you replaced the rear shocks but have your towed since you put them on? I’m going with A. A blown shock, which is allowing you to ride on the spring only causing you to have the bounce due to lost ability to dampen the ride. Or B. Soft valving that doesn’t do enough to dampen the ride. Or a combination of both. The only thing that would allow the rear to “bounce” like I’m assuming your talking about is the lack of the ability of the shock to accommodate the load that you are carrying. Just a couple thoughts from the peanut gallery.

Don't even say the word lift block if you can see your dealership. They will absolutely use it as an excuse to deny your claim and possibly future ones if they document it.

Shudder and bounce sound different to me. The failed shock bounce I have experienced was more like a trampoline's slower oscillations. I've neer had a failed shock shudder or shake, but that doesn't mean it's not possible, just unlikely.
Definitely take off the blocks before you take it in to the dealership though.

So this is slightly on-topic. Been reading through the various lift solution aside. But this thread piqued my curiosity.

We just bought a 2021 TRD OR DCSB. While not new wheeling this is our first pickup truck and something with leafs. We are using more for DD than wheeler. While we don't plan on towing anything at this time, a small boat may be in our future as well as a cross-country move.

I will say, I generally really like the current suspension. Doesn't ride to soft or hard IMHO. I do plan on going up a tire size and small lift.

Would it behoove us to go ahead get the ICON 1.5 AAL now to help the current new leaf pack?

Does that sound logicaly from what I have read and scenarios above with some failures?

    TIA

It'll feel tall in the back. The truck naturally has some rake to it and that much will probably make you feel like you're pointing at the ground.

If you load up with a few hundred pounds of gear, water, and food, add that to the weight of you and your passengers, and you probably have a good justification for an add a leaf.

So it feels like a wheel suddenly comes out of balance in the rear, but when hitting imperfections in the road. I thought the exact same about the shocks being shot. I replaced them both immediately with 35mm rc n3 shocks, it didnt resolve the issue at all.

Maybe its the leafs that cant handle the 70 lb 33s and such a light box? I havent towed with new shocks, but just by filling the truck with fuel the issue gets worse, its more often and more steady. New aals are coming in soon.

Is there any reason to suspect a loose gas tank strap or something? I dunno :notsure: You've just mentioned the gas thing a couple times and I thought it might be related.
