A little under 9k on my truck and I’ve averaged about 20.5 on mixed driving.

 

Used to average 19.9. 90% highway at 75mph. Went to 18-18.5 with 4.88. I have aggressive all terrains in 285/70/17 now and I'm getting around 17-17.5 corrected for tire size. I do have a smart cap but my mileage didn't change with that. I also have the KDMAX tune. That gave better mileage on stock gears but doesn't seem to help now over the stock tune. Way nicer to drive than the stock tune however

 

Average over 22 for 67k miles, but I drive like an old man.

 

I used to be able to get 20-22 on the highway. Now I seem to only get 19 with the topper.

that's not typically a good way to maximize fuel efficiency, unless you're just trying to keep your speed under a certain mph.

 

Have a lift and running 265/70/17 tires. Very happy with my mpg.

 

I actually can get better MPG not using it.

 

Sure, by banking some energy on a downhill and decelerating up the next hill. But On a long trip I get tired of hypermiling and just set the cruise at the speed limit and go.

No, I bought this second 3rd gen knowing what I was getting myself into, but it'd be cool to get close to advertised. The other day I got 17mpg and was extastic

 

A lot of it depends on how it is driven. I’ve gotten over 25 in my modified Trans Am going to a race (BBORR). And under 6 on the 118 mile course. Of course we averaged slightly over 125 mph in the race. More like 70 on the way there.

And mods will almost always make fuel economy worse.

 

With most newer vehicles you will Normally see an increase in MPH as the engine and driveline start to break in. That’s my guess from the information you provided.

And to answer your question about individual mileage. My 2012 2.7 Prerunner averages 19.2 driven my normal way of driving, which most would consider to be aggressive.

Not aggressive in an unfriendly way of driving towards other vehicles. But I don’t waste any time getting up to speed.

We live very rural, with most of our FM roads in Texas being well kept, most locals run in the high 70s to 80s under these circumstances.

Just did a spark plug replacement and coil pack boots rebuild over the weekend. It looked like the plugs were well overdue etc. I'll be interested in seeing how this helps the MPG of my 2.7. The idle really smoothed out and it seems to axcelorate better.

 

I wouldn't doubt him. I use adaptive cruise control(ACC) on the high way and achieve the best MPG, when I free foot it, I can never achieve those numbers. Constant cruise is okay but the best MPG I get is from ACC on highways. Just need to know when to change the distances when coming into busy/moderate traffic highways.

I track all my mileage and gas with the Simply Auto app on my phone, my overall average is 10.27L/100KM, tracking since the day I got the truck.

I did get the KDMAX tune at full throttle recently and my MPG has gotten a little worse, though I think my driving habit has become more aggressive since the truck is so much more responsive. However, if I dump it into ACC on the highway, I will get the same amazing MPG again.

EDIT: Corrected the unit of measure for gas. I'm Canadian. 10.27L/100KM not 10.27MPG....

lol. well, yeah. but the proposition wasn't how to stop worrying about mpg, but how to get better mpg.

 

Fair enough. I think I’ve got most Tacoma’s covered on mpg. I took this just now.

 

How accurate is the digital display compared to taking the number of miles on the odometer since last fill up divided by the number of gallons to fill the tank? The only Toyota that I have with digital display is a Rav4 and it is not very close. It tends to be optimistic with 22 to 25 mpg when actual consumption is 19.5
