Yeah, seems around 8" things start to not fit in some of the shorter toyotas, we were fortunate to keep it at 6.5"

    Picked up my truck Thursday.
Here's some pics of the crawlbox mount.
Runs smooth, fairly quite but a slight rumbling from the gear driven boxes.

Explain this rumbling. I feel I have the same issue and daily driving my truck made me lose interest.

    So I bought a 4runner. Lol

Remove the mc HD case mount and see if the rumble will go away

Hi folks, I'm back looking to purchase a crawl box for my MT 2nd gen. I was on the Marlin waitlist for about a year while they were still selling full units before deciding to spend my money elsewhere.

I've got some questions that I know are likely asked and answered here, but these BS threads get so long with too much... well BS, that it can be hard to find the diamonds of information in the rough.

If anyone's been through the shopping, comparing, collecting parts process for a 2nd gen recently and would like to chat I'd appreciate some help, thank you!

I'd like to do a unit with 4.7 gearing, prefer prebuilt for time, complexity and ease -- so TG is most attractive. I probably won't end up doing the install myself.

    Some of my questions:
    - Are there any good build threads or comments that list out the components folks have gathered to do a nice 2nd gen install?
    - I have a MT 2nd gen, what extra components are needed for a MT installation.
    -̶ ̶H̶o̶w̶ ̶d̶o̶ ̶f̶o̶l̶k̶s̶ ̶d̶e̶c̶i̶d̶e̶ ̶w̶h̶e̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶d̶o̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶4̶.̶7̶ ̶f̶i̶r̶s̶t̶ ̶o̶r̶ ̶s̶e̶c̶o̶n̶d̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶s̶t̶a̶c̶k̶ ̶u̶p̶?̶
    - Are there any other options around within the TG price range that don't require too much parts gathering/ donor sourcing? (I like NW fab's ecobox -- it's extra work for me to collect all the parts and get everything right so I shy away from it a bit)
    - I want to do a twin-stick setup using an FJ cruiser TC swap at some point, think I could do this in two steps, as opposed to at once and not waste too much effort?

    Replying to bolded part.

if keeping stock tcase, the 4.7 has to go in front. No choice in that

Preferred pre-built for time? If you gathered all the necessary parts, assembling the unit will take a couple of hours, that's it.

That and I believe everyone should build their own crawl box. They are stupid easy and fun to assemble, and in the event anything happens there are very few "regular" auto shops that will even know wtf they are looking at. No real special tools needed besides some NICE snap ring pliers.

These hobo freight ones have come in clutch multiple times. Don't even try with some of those "universal" ones that have interchangeable tips and whatnot

I bought a crazy huge compound style plier off a snap on truck for that massive c clip on the coupler. It's pretty nice! I also have that same set you posted but got it from Amazon instead. Those are nice as well, just don't know if they open far enough for the big ass c clip.

Hey Jordan- Unless something has change and TG now has the parts, the biggest problem you're going to have putting a marlin / TG setup in a 2nd gen manual is sourcing the oil seal extension housing and the 22 to 23 spline (trans to crawlbox) input adapter that are specific to the manual trans. Unless you can get your hands on a set of used ones, they aren't readily available anywhere. Back in 2019 when I did mine, I was lucky enough to get a spare oil seal extension housing from a good friend who had one on hand, but I had paid through the nose to have my own spline adapter custom made because I wasn't willing to wait on Marlin's empty promises that they would someday design their own. I took detailed measurements and had the shop design the extension housing even though they actually never made one for me, so the designs for both exist. Check out the links I gave you in my responses above.

I just sold my spare spline adapter to someone last week who is also going the TG route. By some miracle, he was actually able to get an oil seal extension housing in hand from Marlin, but they were out of stock on the spline adapter and couldn't give him an estimate on when they had more. o_O:jerkoff: I told him that I thought it was unlikely that Marlin was manufacturing more of the spline adapters for crawlboxes considering they never had their own design and aren't building crawlboxes anymore...it just doesn't make sense. You could give them a try on the oil seal extension housing and see what they say. They bought a bunch of old inchworm parts last year and put together some frankenboxes out of a mix of marlin / inchworm stuff, but I would say if they don't have it on the shelf they aren't going to.

I confirmed with the machine shop last week that they can still make both parts. I am happy to put you in contact with them if you REALLY want to go the TG/ Marlin route, but I think you should look hard at the Nfab option. I am actually considering putting one of their boxes together using my old taco case input and selling my Marlin case down the road.

I am the person @Littles sold his spare 22 to 23 spline adapter to. In the process of the install and waiting for driveshafts, but his design fits perfect on the TG crawlbox. 20210919_110216.jpg
