Current F150 makes 500 ft lbs on 87, but Toyota forum so whatever.

Honestly the twin turbo engine is one of the things Toyota did right. My 2021 F150 gets ~19 MPG overall IRL with the family in it and can pull my 7000lbs loaded TT in 8th (out of 10) gear at about 2400 rpm. If Toyota can get close to that it's a lot better than their old as balls V8.

Maybe that could be Toyota's new slogan "Close to the best"

Interesting. We'll see what Mr. T says for their twin turbo hybrid. Probably max 89-91 but I suspect premium won't be necessary.

HP and torque are SAE rated at the lowest allowed fuel. In order for Ford to pull a Dodge Hemi, they would of had to of clearly stated that peak HP/Torque is made with 89 or 91. They did not, hence SAE 87 fuel rating is the stickered 400 HP and 500 ftlbs of torque. If it wasn't another manufacturer would of sued the shit out of them lol. Anyone who remembers when the Hemi advertised their 89 fuel power numbers will remember this.

My new work truck tows like a devil, never had a truck quite like it. Run it on 87 at about 3000 feet of altitude. The new Fords are great for that and hopefully the Toyota is too. Not even bashing on the new Tundy, but the V6 twin turbo is going to be an upgrade for towing.

Imagine this engine in a Tacoma. It will fit in the engine bay too.

Like it a lot. Only thing is I feel like it would look better with some fog lamps. I just feel it completes the look.

They've never been built as work trucks. Just like the higher trim level f150s, etc etc. They are as you put "lifestyle" trucks

Check out what comes on a Ford XLT XTR 302A now. It's crazy what a work truck is now. 12" screen, 20" rims, lane keeping with all the safety goodies, etc etc. This is what I'm curious to see with the Tundra. If the SR5 is as low a trim as Toyota normally keeps it they're just going to widen the price gap between them and everyone else.

Ill take a look. I know all the trims across the board are getting nicer and nicer. I think its what most people want. Even the SR5 trim in a Tacoma is def pretty decent looking

As far as higher octane use for towing, thats always been the rule for any manufactures gas engines. Higher octane produces more btu's thats helpful when engines are under continuous load.

In one of the reviews (take that for what it's worth) it said it ran on 87.

i think it looks great. Cant wait for some internet photo-shopped pics of a lift + meaty tires (perhaps even a front bumper).

but also nervous about what pricing will be.

Just for yuks, the Rivian is about $70k. If the new Tundra is close, i'm going Rivian.

    Ups

    1. Sounds like an awesome powertrain. Would love to test drive / ride in one.
    2. New rear suspension ought to be good, among the other suspension goodies available.
    3. Infotainment system & screen looks awesome.
    4. Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, which adds full-speed DRCC and other goodies not included in 2.0. Nice!
    5. Dash layout and gauge cluster / screen look good. What's with this toggle switch trend though? Reminds me of Apollo 13...

    Downs

    1. The front grill is gawdy, in every style. Good lord...
    2. From the side / rear, the cab absolutely looks like a Silverado (minus that top spoiler thing on the Chevy).
    3. The 4x4 shift slider is dumb. Why not just put some buttons there? Just looks like a drink/dust/crumb collector.
    4. TRD Pro red interior is overkill on the red. Looks hideous in my opinion.

AFAIK, higher octane is just less prone to pre-ignition, but I'm pretty sure the BTU per gallon is similar as lower octane regular gas (as long as it is not E85, of course .)
