What would cause my transmission to be off center? I measured the output shaft to the frame rail and there is at least a half inch difference. Its causing my drive shaft to rub on the crossmember when my truck is loaded with passengers and I also believe it is the source of a vibration I have. Can the engine and transmission mounts be loosened and everything centered?

You do not have a stock driveshaft and have not clearanced it properly. I dont believe that the rear pinion is exactly centered on the axle.

its the transmission output shaft end that is misaligned. The axle end of the driveshaft is centered when I measured it.

That bracket looks like is where your carrier bearing is supposed to be mounted

its a one piece shaft so it eliminates the carrier bearing

Have you checked the rear transmission mount and engine mounts to make sure they aren't damaged or blown out?

The transmission mount is new. I'll have to check the engine mounts. How hard are they to change out if I need to?

If you have a one piece shaft I'd consider removing the CB bracket then, you can have lateral misalignment in a DS safely. People put in offset differentials from land cruisers on tacomas and have no vibes from that regularly.

wouldn't a lateral misalignment cause u joint vibration?

Does your rear joint have a double cardan joint? It wont matter if it does. Who made it?

Then minor (which this is) lateral misalignment isnt a concern

I'm guessing the 1/2" of lateral misalignment is causing my vibrations. That might even be too much angle for a double cardan joint to compensate for.

Nah, that's hardly anything, it could be outta balance, but I'd bet you have a failing driveline bushing or a totally collapsed one. Check engine, and trans mounts for failed bushings or welds.

One thing is for sure. The driveshaft is rubbing the carrier bearing support. Probably only during certain up travel moments.

How long have you had that driveshaft? How long have you been dealing with the vibrations?

Look under the engine. Make sure nothing is visibly offset, nor frame cracking around the engine mounts.
