I always thought it was strange the discrepancy between caps in the tacoma vs frontier (6300lb I believe depending on package). I don't know! I rarely tow anyway, my dad thought about buying my truck off me, wanting to get rid of his '11 F-150 and still use for his 19' Tracker and I had to be like "yeah good luck the capacity is shit" well now I'm an idiot.

Mines an ‘08 with 112 , new frame , leafs , steering rack. Overall in great shape . Too afraid to sell/ trade only to buy at high price for a 3-4 year old vehicle

Been weighing this myself. Switched jobs this past year, between child care for our 5 month old and gas money, the fairly substantial raise I got changing jobs is out the window. Have ~1hr commute each way from Hooksett to Plymouth working 6-7 days/week (I'm an athletic trainer as PSU) and I'm close to $450-500 each month in gas. Been thinking of trading the Tacoma in for something better on gas since my current fuel bill is more than a new car payment.

*If anyone is in the market for a '12 TRD Sport let a guy know... (I'm half joking half serious)

I think that's what my old Tacoma was rated for. It was a 4x4 SR5 without the tow package. Current truck is rated to tow 14,700 lbs, overkill FTW!

Got these little guys in to try out. Haven't tested them yet.
Also got out with exploreNH guys Saturday to do some wheeling. Did a shakedown on the truck after ripping the whole suspension apart and putting it back together again. Unfortunately I think I might have discovered a bad uca ball joint which at 160$ for a new ball joint I might as well buy a set of jba heavy duty high casters...

You guys did a pretty good job hiding that Jeep, but you can still see the fenders peeking out!

If it has a composite bed that's actually new then. The previous Tundra didn't have that. I miss that from my Tacoma.

I believe they linked the rear, which they probably copied something similar to the 4runner if they did. Available rear air bags as well, with 12k pound tow cap. And like Joe said, composite bed on the tundra is new, my 2021 and my 2011 both had/have metal beds, the 2021 has the factory spray in bedliner though. Id honestly like to see them take the lexus 5.0l and do something with it in the tundra

I'd drive the new tundra. I'll definitely be going for a test drive at least. If the cost is similar to the Tacoma (doubt it) and the mileage is equal or better (probably) I'm game.

Not on purpose! I forgot about that. Wanted to and forgot it existed like two days after I saw it. I am going up to vermont but with a different group and just F'in about.

I've got a Ford Expedition Limited as a rental. It's nice but weird at the same time. Heated and cooled seats, B/O stereo but no LED headlamps. It fits people well but has almost no room for luggage while using all 3 rows.
    The wifey likes it though.

Did a post trip walkthrough of the truck and the passengerside camburg upper control arm.ball joint is toast... Camburg wants 160$ per side (I would just replace both) and jba wants 490 shipped for the standard duty high caster control arms.... No brainer so I ordered the jba's... Plus the high caster will help my rubbing issue hopefully....

Maybe you can find a decent and reliable fuel efficient car as a daily driver. Guy I worked with picked up a civic for a rediculous deal.Speaking of Physical training/ therapy,Ijust got my shoulder scoped today

Up until the '21 F-150s, Ford was really stingy with LED headlamps. The 502a Lariat was the cheapest one to get them. Apparently the Expedition is the same deal. The halogens in my '18 XLT were the single most irritating thing about that truck. The high beams were pretty good, but the low beams were useless. The LEDs on this truck are much better.

My girlfriend's CX-5 is the most oddly optioned vehicle I've seen. It's a 2016 with turning LED headlamps, rain sensing wipers, Bose stereo (which does not sound like a premium sound system to me - the B&O in my F-150 is miles better and I wouldn't even consider it to be fantastic), moon roof, collision avoidance braking and blind spot sensors, but no heated seats or mirrors.

    • Let's ballpark insurance addition is ~25$/mo for another vehicle
    • Civic is 10k
    • MPG for tacoma is 17.7 MPG overall (2012 tacoma from fuelly)
    • MPG for civic is 32.3 (2012 civic from fuelly)
    • Gas is 2.75 per gallon
The cost per mile for the tacoma (gas) is .15537
The cost per mile for the civic (gas) is 0.085139

Assume 18k miles per year (this makes numbers easy to work with) = 1500 miles per month

Gas per month for the Tacoma is 233.06
Gas per month for the Civic is 127.71

Now - because of the civic added insurance, add 25$ running costs per month = 177.71

With a 10k up front cost for the civic:

    (ENTER MAGIC)
    https://www.mathportal.org/calculators/analytic-geometry/intersection-of-two-lines-calculator.php

So happy this thing doesn't put into decimals for me, this makes no sense

    upload_2021-9-21_8-32-3.jpg

Anyway - The intersection point tells you when the break even for the civic is. X is 200000/1107 = 180.67 months - round up to 181 ... dun duh duh duhhhhh

    15 years

With these assumptions above and ignoring added cost for maintenance, it will take 15 years for that civic to become worth it for the better MPG.

(Ran the same numbers with a 2012 prius, 46.7 MPG, comes out to a shade under 7 years, this ignores the cost to replace the batteries if needed).

Long of the short - a fuel efficient daily driver isn't always worth it. I've done the math out (I'm an analytical person, I know I'm crazy) to compare the frontier to the tacoma too, and having a daily driver that's fuel sipping, etc etc. The frontier would take me like 12 years to become less worth it with the better Tacoma MPG but I still got a Tacoma. And for me, a sedan daily driver - explicitly for the emm pee gees is a waste of money, if I'm going to keep the truck alongside it.

Killer breakdown, @GarlicFarts -- a lot of people explored the "good gas mileage daily" some years back when gas was ~$5/gallon and quickly came to realize that paying more at the pump was painful but nowhere near as cost-intensive as buying a second vehicle. Add in registration, upkeep, sales tax (plus personal property tax in CT) and it's just not worth it financially.
