Sway bars

Will adding sway bars to my Tacoma worth the benefit? I drive 95 percent on the road.

 

Your truck came with one up front, do you not have it?

 

Assuming that you are talking about adding a rear sway bar? If so, that is going to stiffen the rear and shift traction more to the front. That could make the rear more tail happy.

If you're towing, a rear SB can stabilize things.

 

2017 SR5 does? So I don’t have the rear one I’m assuming.

Correct, you have a front one, some benefit from adding a rear one, especially if you tow or carry a bunch of weight on the rear all the tine.

 

For a street driven truck I think a set of Helwig sway bars would be nice.

 

No one has a stock rear.

Depends on your perception of benefit, based on how you use the truck. And what all is involved in getting it installed.

92.3% of on the road owners wouldn't know if there was a rear sway in place or not. While they can have 'results' on a solid axle, it's no where near the same as it is on an IRS.

 

Oof. My stock Sport was just harsh with the SB.

It was nicely balanced without it. I couldn't imagine duals.

With the SR / SR5 being somewhere in the middle between the OR (soft) and Sport (harsh), it might work?

Well are you taking corners like your driving a 911?

If not then you probably dont need more sway bars.

 

My BIL put one on his 11', he loves the damn thing. He and I carry a lot of weight in the bed 90 percent of the time, poolmen = 300lb to 1000lb at a time. I have had my 07 truck backend break loose twice. Once ended up in disaster, hit a light pole and a gas line in front of a house, and the 2nd I was able to sster out of it. My 3rd gen, I have only broken the back end loose on snow/ice.

 

I wish there was more demand for rear sway bars on Tacoma, we install them all the time on tundras, but rarely on tacoma.

Once tacoma gets multilink we'll get it finally.

 

I recently pulled the front sway bar on my truck and don't really miss it but I also have a fun street car that can fill the void. If I was doing less off road and wanted a really fun street truck I would be putting sway bars on. I think the positives for sway bars on the street outweigh the negatives. I know total chaos has a lighter rate than stock sway bar for lt trucks. If there were stock width equivalents I would likely run one.

Stock and no SB, the rear was still pretty happy. I was doing two 60lb sand bags for winter for some weight to settle it.

Once I got some recovery gear back there with a bed mat and Softopper (about 200lb?), it was nicely balanced. I would play with it in all the good weather. Kicking out the rear or 4wheel drifts in the wet.


Funny enough, with about 1k back there on the new suspension, it was pushing hard through corners. The rear was not kicking out.

 

These are definitely not 1st or 2nd gens....
3rd gen got a decent engine, just a retarded tune.
