I'd hate to get a letter in the mail from my ins. telling me their data show me driving 10-15 mph over the posted speed limits so they are moving me into a high risk policy.
I haven't been in an accident since High School. Just another way for them to justify sucking more money out of me.

Side note there is a fuse in the engine compartment for the WiFi feature! o_O

Great write up Thanks OP. If you are a techy geek and a tik tok whore I guess it's a cool app. App is always logging out, or won't start my truck. It's just engineered just enough to get info from me, which I couldn't care less about. But I also noticed it eats my cell battery as its always looking for my truck. As for the key fob remote start... It blows! Almost need to be beside the truck before it starts, and by then I watch 3 flashes followed by 5 flashes followed by 7 flashes. Need to be able to turn that airplane approaching light show off! Always seems a catch to what we think is free.

Interesting. I don't have the app on my phone, but I knew Toyota was collecting the data from my truck. I called Toyota and told them I didn't want to share my data. They said ok, and that was it. But my green light is still on. Hmm.

Would be great if all you have to do is remove a fuse to disable it. Part of me could give a rats butt what they collect on me but the speeds that I am accustomed to driving and what may be used in the "black box" scenario after a potential accident sucks. Feels like our privacies are lessening...not that it matters, I have my leash/Iphone in my pocket voluntarily anyways.

Pull the DCM fuse from the under hood fuse box. You'll lose the bluetooth mic which goes through the telematics module, but meh. You'll see the SOS light go out after the backup battery in the telematics unit runs down. You'll also notice the DCM icon greyed out on the head unit.

Nice to see someone that gets it. The people that complain about Toyota violating their privacy think nothing of doing their banking or paying bills online, shopping on Amazon, carrying a cell phone, or using a credit or debit card. The digital trail we leave just from living our lives these days is huge, and that includes coming on this forum. The data your truck shares should be the least of your worries.

willing release of privacy is one thing, toyota tracking your vehicle not only is not it's also not "normal", we all know (or should) that EVERYTHING WE DO ONLINE is tracked but I have NO reason to assume the same is true of my vehicle. they're just going WAY too far, already have...give 'em an inch they take a mile THAT'S why you SHOULD get worked up. and that thinking (oh it's no big deal) is EXACTLY why they do it as often as they do, you got used to a little and they took more and more till we are here...where literally everything you do is tracked. so keep thinking like that, soon you'll have a govt. official living in your house. His name's steve, nice guy, but often drinks the last soda
