Ok, so my loose plans for tomorrow is to hit ORW around 10 and hang out for maybe an hour. Then head up to Nimblewill Gap Rd from there. It's about an hour drive, so should be at or near the trailhead around noon. Will stop to get food somewhere in the mix. Any and all are welcome to join.

Nimblewill Gap / Old Bucktown Rd was meh. I talked to someone before going who said that I'd have no problem solo and that if I got stuck I was trying to get stuck.

If you have a stock truck and want to drive some dirt roads and practice picking a line, this is the place for you. I had maybe 3 spots where I had to stop and think about the best way to proceed. There was nothing steep or off-camber. For the most part, it was just a bumpy dirt road.

It was a pretty drive, if a bit underwhelming.

Solid review. There are a few overlooks that open up in the fall that allow passerby’s to see the colors far off in the mountains. Going there with the intent to wheel though would definitely leave one disappointed.

You can see now why no one takes pics out on this route.

    Make it to the brewery?

Brewery was a cool little spot. It is also a meadery and they have a pretty big outside area. Definitely a spot to hang out in the fall.

Yep, sounds about right. Fun if you are new, just part of getting to the fun stuff if you aren't. I wish they would reopen some of the side trails off of Nimblewill. Which way did you go?

I started at Nimblewill and ended at Old Bucktown. I did see a couple of side shoots that I wondered about.

Saw a good size group of some sweet built rigs coming back from wheelin (mostly tacos with a few other yotas and jeeps sprinkled in) coming south on wolf pen gap rd Saturday. Didn't see any chatter here but seems likely someone from TW was there. We were family camping at Winfield Scott what a perfect weather weekend. Hope anyone that was free from work was able to get out and enjoy it too.

I know of a group that was doing the GA Traverse (IG:Wander_Offoad). Looking at the map, it may have been them. Was there a blue Tacoma on 35s?

We only have 2 weekends left in the month. Any interest in a brewery meet?

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
It’s been a minute since I have seen a group of y’all together! If I am in town, and not on my death bed I will meet you there. Not that I can drink with my stomach jacked to hell, but then again I never really did.
Would be cool to put more faces with some names and see some trucks ;)

Sounds about right, I only half way could look. I was cutting over to the other side of the lake with my kid to go fish.

I'm not sure where you are going with that, but wasn't it @Gen2Tacoma that ran into the unfriendly goat lady?

There's a story here, but I'm not sure TW is the appropriate place.

Kind of ironic that she is unfriendly and has a blog. That seems counter intuitive.

New to this thread, new to Ga too. But planning a trip of the north Georgia traverse here on November30-December 4or5. First time if anyone wants to plan that’s cool, I’m really curious is there anything I need to know about the trip or things to look out for?

I wouldn’t say noob, but not super experienced but. Decent little truck, not planning on bringing the trailer, going to bring my RTT and probably my bike, know fire mountain isn’t too far from the SC line.

Bummer, those dates are out for me but should be perfect weather here for this type of trip. In terms of roads and obstacles the traverse is slim pickings. Charlie’s Creek was the most “challenging” after the closure of Tray Mtn but they have recently graded it. I have not been out since it’s completion. The majority of the traverse is well graded gravel roads connecting you to short trips of pavement to bridge you to the next FSR. I do suggest making sure your route is saved offline as the majority of time cell phone service is nonexistent. Pending there are no tropical storms or flooding the week leading up to your trip, your truck will be more than capable and leave you with a little more experience and desire to get out and see more of our beautiful state.
