My buddy and I drove Engineer pass East -> West on Friday, coming down on the west side we saw this Tacoma that had rolled off of an off-camber obstacle going West -> East. Didn't roll far, was stopped by trees, but I'm betting it was scary as shit. Nice truck with good modifications, and the bed and topper was still full of camping gear.

Anyone know what happened? Is the driver (and passenger?) OK? I can't imagine how they're going to get the truck out, winching would be a challenge in that location.

This was some scary shit to see on such a popular trail.

Did you happen to check to see if anyone was in it or around it?

It was too steep to get down to it, but the drivers window was completely gone and the truck appeared to be empty from the road. It had definitely happened recently though.

They're gonna have to winch it back and get it turned tail downhill, then get it rolled back over and winch it back up to the trail. I could see Matt's Offroad Recovery doing this.

Hard to tell, but were those Colorado plates? Looks like they might be.

Saw a 3rd gen in the exact same spot last year, just downhill from the Poughkeepsie intersection. Even got to watch them recover it at night.

^^^ Sounds like it happened on Wednesday and the driver and passenger were uninjured.

That road seems to have more than enough room to drive on looking at those pics, crazy to think that's happened twice. I would hardly call that off-camber, but I guess they were spooked enough by it to try and go around and lost footing on the edge. Hope they're OK

Looks like one of those "your truck can tip a lot futher than you think and you have to trust it and not freak out" locations, not friendly for those without experience. I've been through that section before multiple times and there's a couple of those off camber areas that definitely get me to pucker a little.

They may have tried to go far outside to limit how tilted they were and went too far and slipped off the side. Wouldn't be the first time I've seen it happen.

LOL. No, these guys will probably do it: https://www.co4x4rnr.org/
They actually legitimately know how to do stuff like this.

I wouldn't say Matt's team isn't capable of a recovery like this, I've seen some of their videos that look the same or worse than this. The location would make CO4x4 a more likely solution, and they definitely know their stuff too. I'm always interested in watching a recovery and learning from it, anyone know how this all ended and if there is a video of the recovery?
