Take it to a mechanic. If you can't identify your oil pan, you're in over your head.

My local dealership identified my timing cover leak super quick. They ordered me a repair kit and got to work. My third party warranty (CNA) covered most of the cost.

I was extremely worried about the motor being pulled with less than 100K miles but the Master Tech really calmed my nerves. He’s done a number of these already and answered every single question I had with great detail.

All said and done, I paid $800 for the timing cover repair, new water pump, drive belt, spark plugs, new rear main seal, transmission flush, and coolant flush. My total without the warranty would have been around $5000

Is this just the 2016's and 17's? has anyone with a 2019 experienced this leak?

So i gotta ask. Why Does it "need" to be fixed? It leaks so little. More of a seep then a leak. Will it really effect anything other then a dirty front cover?

Let’s put it this way. If my CPO warrant didn’t cover it and I had to pay out of pocket, I probably would not have gotten the repair done.

As a fellow 16 owner (with no warrantee remaining), if and when mine starts to leak, I can assure you, I will just let it leak.

I can’t say that I blame you. If my warranty didn’t cover this my plan was to Brakleen the living hell out of it and maybe try and slop some sort of sealant around the cover. My “leak” was so slight that even after a couple months the oil level on my dipstick didn’t change.

Welp - Some issues have started to surface a couple of months after having my timing cover replaced. Finding loose wiring harnesses, some clamps have come loose, and I've got a ton of engine vibration that feels like engine mounts that wasn't an issue before. Still not leaking and no CELs so fine on that front but the engine is far from smooth now unfortunately. Previously the only time I'd feel much vibration in the cab/steering wheel was on the highway going 70-80 in the 2k RPM range. Now it's all the time and I've got rattling noises at idle I didn't have before...

all depends on the mechanic and dealer, I'm sure, but to echo others... Mine had been seeping since new, of that I'm sure. There was faint oil smell from the grill/hood which I called out to a dealer a couple of times and was told no issue. Eventually it has seeped enough to be collect plenty to be visible, my CNA warranty covered all but $100 of it and I had it done.

In hindsight, I wish I'd have just left it be. Now I'm chasing gremlins (again)!

I had the leak and it definitely was "more of a seep." I got it repaired under my powertrain warranty at around 46K miles. I am now at 65K and the "repaired" timing cover gasket has totally failed. My local dealership (Toyota SLO) recently changed owners and they are saying that because the mileage/time intervals for the warranty specific to the repair, i.e. the warranty that cover's work done by the dealer, have passed that they would need Toyota to do it out of "goodwill." I contacted Toyota Corporate today and my "Brand Experience Rep." was fairly worthless but I am expecting a call from a "Senior Service Rep" within the next day.

My advice is don't get the "seep" fixed. Let the thing leak. I would trade anything right now to go back to just a simple "seep" instead of the oily nightmare I am left with now.

Will update soon with pics/documents and outcome from service rep.

Right but to be sure, the cure is worse than the disease. LET IT SEEP.

Sorry for the upside down pics, they are correct on my iPhone... anyway does this look like the issue here? I do my own oil changes and I didn't notice it the last two times, but I definitely notice it now so it's become much worse... 2016 with 52k miles. Lots of oil gunked up but no drips that I've noticed on the ground.

Luckily I have the 8yr/100k platinum because of my complaints with poor shifting and finally finding that I was many quarts low of transmission fluid after many visits to the dealership since I bought it new. Corporate wanted me to go away so they threw me a bone.

    Disclaimer: I'm no expert.
But, that is way more build up than mine had when Toyota repaired it.

Yeah it seems like a lot... I haven't lost any noticeable oil volume on the dipstick between oil changes either. I'll keep and eye on it until I can take it in

That's way less than all the oil that was caked onto my power steering pump. Yours looks much more like what Toyota might try and call a seep. And after reading all the reports here you might want to wait to address it. I had mine done but I'm always waiting for it to come back. What mine looked like. 2016 with 75K miles.

I need to take a few more pics so I can keep an eye on it... that looks worse for sure. My engine bay is muddy and needs to be cleaned, so I was tempted to clean that area up to watch it but I think I'll leave it alone until I have them check it out. I need to look at it from the angle of your pic it was dark when I noticed it last night

Yeah the typical place for the oil to collect is the PS pump. When I brought it to Toyota it took the tech 3 seconds of looking there to confirm what I told the service desk. I find it better to go to the dealer and tell them the issue, rather than just say "I think it's got an oil leak."

yeah exactly, that's basically the only way i've had any luck at the dealership as a woman.... otherwise i'm mostly ignored or not taken seriously :frusty:
i do all the basic maintenance on my vehicles, put my lift on etc.... but i saw this and figured i should try to figure out what it is before going in there blindly!

I got in for a better look today, doesn't look great
