I just realized you have stock tires with 4.88 gears. Do you like that combination?

I might be giving my truck to my dad since I haven't had any luck selling as is yet. He doesn't want it lifted with the 33" tires I have. So I'd like to get a feel of how it drives with stock tires, 4.88 gears, and the SC.[/QUOTE]

I like the stock tires - rides nice and firm and no sluggishness. Works fine for my needs and I don't have to worry about suspension parts, or inner crash panels being destroyed by excessive wear from weight and 34's or bigger. Combination of the suspension and tires (Michelin AT2) allow me to do all I need.

I really feel like Magnuson could have done better, at least 400 HP.....

Toyotas new twin turbo 3.5 V6 makes 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque..... and thats without the hybrid boost which if you have that option would make it 437 hp (at 5,200 rpm) and 583 lb-ft (at a relatively low 2,400 rpm)

I always felt that they asked for far too much money for such a shit gain, these are 300 HP engines in naturally aspirated form (Camry - 301 HP 3.5 ), you'd think they'd be capable of a 33% increase in power with forced induction.

The next gen Tacomas are going to absolutely blow the doors off of these supercharged ones. Proper HP and the kind of extreme torque you'd expect from a heavily boosted 3.5. With a simple ECU tune these trucks will be 400+ HP/ 500+ foot pounds.

I have a feeling these supercharger kits wont stay $6700 for long, they'll soon be clearance in the next year when everyone just buys the factory boosted trucks.

I think magnuson isn’t far off from the max torque for a stock Tacoma driveline.

My clutch cannot handle the torque while towing without slipping at 6psi.

looking in the inspection cover on the bell housing. Everything still looks pretty good. Without the SC I’d probably have another 50k miles on the clutch.

In the case of a manual transmission, I understand having to have a lower limit. Its fairly typical that you'd need to upgrade you clutch when going forced induction.

Though I do think they could have done better for the automatic trans folks. Its just too much money for what amounts to a sort of mediocre gain. Maybe if it was $5000 and not nearly $7000 it would make more sense.

I still wouldn’t call it a mediocre gain. For 6k it’s pretty cheap HP for a Toyota. It makes the Tacoma exactly what it should be for a daily driven truck in my opinion. I have no complaints about the power. The tune isn’t the greatest, but peak power and torque, and low end torque is more than enough.

Yeah I unfortunately dont fancy spending well over $7k after tax to get a truck to where it should be power wise. You'd be better off trading in the truck for the new Taco/Tundra and putting that $7k towards that.

I think they're really going to have to get aggressive with the discounts on these supercharges in a year or two when every taco is running around with nearly 400 hp stock.

I doubt we will see the same motor in the next generation Tacoma as the new Tundra. I bet it'll be a Turbo 4 cyl with the potential for a turbo 4/hybrid configuration.

What makes you think toyota is gonna put that kind of power inside a tacoma?

You may be right, now that I think about it, theres no way Toyota would put the same engine in the Taco.

Im guessing we see a heavily boosted 2.7 inline 4 with 280-300 HP. I know some guys dont like a 4 banger in their truck but the low end torque/torque curve would beat the piss out of the Naturally Aspirated 3.5. It would also be easy to swap the turbo and make big power. 400 HP is easy with the VW 2.0t in the GTI/Golf R. Toyota 2.7 could easily make big power.

2TR-FE comes with a forged crank and piston oil squirters so seems like a good candidate for heavy boost.

I see you have an MT too, would you say it was money well spent? I always get conflicting answers but if my MT bros like it then I'm in

There are some minor issues but nothing like a stock truck, the extra HP make it WAY better.

In my automatic trans Ive noticed the SC isn't really that impressive from a stop but Ive noticed its due to the shifting of the transmission and locking of the torque convertor, when ECT is on its a whole different story, responds immediately and pulls good till ~3k then the VVTI + RPM's make it great and rightly quick for a taco. Yesterday my wife and I ran up to look at a cabin and on the freeway I literally had to tell my wife to slow down (hitting 85mph) she hadn't even realized she was speeding.
The SC was a big purchase and my wife was hesitant to say the least (she's fought me on supercharging 3 other Yota's over 15 years) but there isn't a chance in hell you would convince my wife to not get the SC.

Just an FYI clutch masters does have upgraded clutches for our Tacomas. They just aren’t listed on their website.

I have a hybrid ceramic/organic clutch coming in for mine so it will stop slipping while towing.

I haven't had any issues with mine slipping while towing. My truck is newer though, just under 10k miles total and 8k miles supercharged.

I’m at 46000 miles, 15k on the SC. I can’t make it slip without towing yet, but it would probably get there pretty soon.

there’s not a lot of dust or any signs of excessive wear under the clutch inspection cover. I think I’ve just barely hit the point wear the stock clutch can’t do it anymore. I probably would have 30+K left without the SC.

I do, but that wouldn’t make any difference in this case unless I was power shifting with the trailer. (Which I won’t deny I may do sometimes)

Ah. I was curious. I bet it would slip even more if that thing was still on there.

Very short vid. Just wanted to push the skinny pedal a little to show you. 2020 taco trd pro. Full rack and truss. Full steel skids, sliders. 275s nittos (I forget whic). Factory gears, etc. Was going about 65 and pushed to just over 90 and had to let off. Didn't want to speed too much.
