    Wouldn't that sort of disqualify it for use on the street? I'm unfamiliar with ECE standards but are they applicable in the states?

    Not SAE compliant, but ECE rules allow it. But no, ECE regulations are not applicable in the US.

    I've had to argue with cops about my cibies before. Now I just say "that R112 is the ECE equivalent of SAE J581 which is referenced by fmvss108..." and eyes generally start to gloss over about there.

    Ive got it on my To-Do list to add them to the fog thread. I was thinking on passing on the driving optics though, at least for the Sport but could consider adding them.

    The sports don’t interest me much I’d definitely be going with the pros.

    @crashnburn80

    Do you think the SS3 Max driving pods would create a glare problem on the hood with cowl mounts? I do understand that the shape of my ford hood compared to the taco hoods might come into play.

    Take a look at post #46 with the Max vs Pro Driving. The Max beam is veridically tighter than the Pro, which would be beneficial in your scenario for less glare. The TIR spot/driving optics will have minimal glare compared to other pods that use an open bucket reflector with a forward facing LED, but I cannot say for certain how much there will be. @mynameistory has a great output shot in the fog showing the pattern dispersion in post #164 with the Pro Driving lights, though his are in a more ideal location. As I mentioned the Max will have an even better pattern for that cowl placement vs the Pros. Driving lights are most ideal forward of the hood line, but if you had to pick a driving light in that location the Max would be the best there is to minimize glare while providing excellent down road illumination.

    Since the car decision is still being decided on I'm looking at actually mounting the max driving I got from memario. there just isn't an easy way to add a 2nd set of pods on the f150s with the ecoboost engine intercooler shutters and adaptive cruise control radar modules.

    Thanks again for all your help

    You could wire them up as a test and have someone hold it in place as a rough idea and check from the driver seat before committing to buying brackets.

    Was actually just getting ready to post that I'd mock something up and check.

    This is not up to what I've seen as tacomaworld standards but it was a quick and dirty check for hood glare. No on road pics. Ammo box looked like a good match for the height of the cowl mounts. Not sure if it was correct or not but I aimed the light level or straight out. Used the passenger side because there's a larger flat spot in the correct spot than the driver's side. Adjusted the passenger seat to same position I drive in. Really don't think there's much glare looking at the hood from outside and not sure what you see from inside isn't the blindingly bright beam reflected back. Either way with the higher height of the driver's side dashboard and steering wheel in the way don't think you'd notice much at all driving. What do you think?

    Good mock up! Aside from light immediately in-front of the lamp it looks pretty reasonable for a forward ditch light mount. I've also noticed this very short vertical spill with the TIR optics. However in nearly any other prod product, you'd have the entire hood illuminated like that spot just right in front of your SS3s.

    I couldn't believe how hot it was after being on for maybe 3 minutes max.

    While I have temp measurements, I had the same experience in testing. My official rating was 'skin melting'. Snow doesn't stand a chance.

    That's to melt the snow off your hood.

    I don’t think you have anything to worry about that’s not bad at all. I run forward facing XL80s on ditch brackets on my ram 3500 which also has a big flat hood like your Ford and I have no issues with a pattern that isn’t nearly as tight as the SS3s.

    So I’ve been running 2 sets of SS3 pros in fog pattern in my ram bumper, selective yellow and 4k white. I found myself only ever using the selective yellow so yesterday I changed the 4k white set to selective yellow sae driving. Got to test them out this morning in heavy fog and I was surprised by a couple things, how far and clearly they punched through the fog and how tight the pattern is. Being in the bumper they’re mounted fairly low so that probably helps punch through the fog at surprising distance and they’re located in the inside bumper holes so that might attribute to how tight the patterns feel.

    they’re currently on a factory auxiliary switch but I’ll probably wire them from the switch to a relay and to the high beam wire so they come on with the factory high beam switch when the auxiliary switch is on just like my light bar. Being on a switch in the middle lower portion of the dash isn’t very practical for turning them off for oncoming traffic.
