I only saw the highlights but what a game... our pitching laid down early but Lowe batted the winning run in crunch time...

I mean... they were down 7 runs and came back.

I'm liking this home stretch better than last year.

I think relegation should be applied to umpires as it is with ball players and even entire soccer teams. Only the best should work the major league games with X at the bottom going back to the minors and X from the minors getting called up each year. Like a Mendoza line for umps. VR training aids can help since it seems many don’t have a clue where the black ends and dirt begins.

Thank you Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina. Nice to be back up by 2 but that’s not much. That second wild card spot and NL east is getting interesting. Padres are at .532 so far which projects to 86-76. To get to 86 each team would need the following record in their remaining games:
———————————————l—- Last 10 games GB (wc, div)
    Padres 74-65, 23 to play, 12-11, 6-4, -
    Reds 74-67, 21 to play, 12-9, 3-7, 1
    Braves 73-65, 24 to play, 13-11, 4-6 .5, -
    Phillies 71-68, 23 to play, 15-8, 6-4, 3, 2.5
    Cards 70-68, 24 to play, 16-8, 4-6, 3.5
    Mets 70-70, 22 to play, 16-6, 7-3, 4.5, 4

The Braves currently lead the east so the Phillies and Mets have 2 avenues but both are similar to the WC except with fewer teams in the mix.

    Who’s getting it done?

Any guesses what it will take?

The Padres play 4 against the Braves, 6 more against the Dodgers, and 10 against the Giants plus throw in 3 against the Cardinals.

The Reds have 3 against the Cardinals, 3 against the Dodgers, and 2 against the White Sox

The Braves have 3 against the Giants, 4 against the Padres, 3 against the Phillies, and 3 against the Mets

The Phillies have 3 against the Mets and 3 against Atlanta

The Cardinals play 1 more against the Dodgers, 3 against the Reds, 3 against the Mets, 3 against the Padres, and 7 against the Brewers.

The Mets play 3 against the Yankees, Phillies, and Cardinals, then 2 against Boston and 3 against the Brewers.

Based on the above it may not take 86 wins to take either the NL East or the remaining wild card spot.

    My two bits:

The Mets are dead. The Cardinals are mostly dead.

The Padres could determine 2 division winners or fall out of the race completely but certainly in a very tough spot and probably dead in spite of their current position. They aren’t playing at a .532 clip now.

That leaves the Braves and Phillies to duke it out of the NL East and whoever gets the short end fighting it out with the Reds for the remaining wild card spot.

85 wins the East, 84 gets the wild card.

as long as the Cards are out, and the Reds are not in second to last, I am happy!!

This has been the most fun 2nd half of the season for a Reds fan in a long time

That’s great! I made that post more in curiosity to see what the teams in the running had in front of them but haven’t watched them much to see how they are doing recently. That and take a stab at guessing who makes it. They’re all .500+ teams but some like the Padres & Mets are slipping and have a much tougher schedule to boot.

    Cards 71-69, 22 to play, 15-7

I still can't believe the Mariners are within a game of the wildcard. I'm hoping that they can hold on for the last few weeks, but I'm not holding my breath.

4 teams all within a game is damn tight. I might have to see which teams the AL contenders play down the stretch.

Updated: WINS NEEDED TIED TO WINNING % OF TOP CONTENDER FOR SECOND WC SPOT. Pregame today 85 wins.

Braves 75-66, 21 to play, 10-11 to reach 85 wins, still likely to win NLE.

    Padres 74-67, 21 to play, 11-10

    Reds 75-68, 19 to play, 10-9
    Cards 72-69, 21 to play, 13-8
    Phillies 72-70, 20 to play, 13-7

The Padres play 4 against the Braves, 3 more against the Dodgers, and 10 against the Giants plus throw in 3 against the Cardinals.

The Reds have today against the Cardinals, 3 against the Dodgers, and 2 against the White Sox

The Braves have 3 against the Giants, 4 against the Padres, 3 against the Phillies

The Phillies have 3 against Atlanta

The Cardinals play today against the Reds, 3 against the Padres, and 7 against the Brewers.

The Mets fell below .500 and lost their spot in this tracking.

Today is a must win for the Cards since it’s their last chance to make up ground on the Reds without “help”.

Likewise the Phillies need to start taking advantage of the softest schedule or risk running out of time. As it is they’ll need to win every series to make it close.

The Reds need to win any series they can ahead of LAD and CWS to get the prize.

I still don’t see the Padres surviving their schedule but they can still play spoiler in all 3 divisions.

Updated: WINS NEEDED TIED TO WINNING % OF TOP CONTENDER FOR SECOND WC SPOT. A change at the top, now the Reds(.521) hold that spot projecting to 84 wins.

Braves 76-66, 20 to play, 8-12 to reach 84 wins, still likely to win NLE.

    Reds 75-69, 18 to play, 9-9

    Padres 74-69, 19 to play, 10-9
    Cards 74-69, 19 to play, 10-9
    Phillies 72-71, 19 to play, 12-7

The Padres play 4 against the Braves, 3 more against the Dodgers, and 9 against the Giants plus throw in 3 against the Cardinals.

The Reds sat today but have 3 against the Dodgers, and 2 against the White Sox

The Braves have 3 against the Giants, 4 against the Padres, 3 against the Phillies

The Phillies have 3 against Atlanta and the rest are last or next to last place teams. That seems to be what they’re trying for.

The Cardinals playing the Mets, 3 against the Padres, and 7 against the Brewers.

The Reds claim the top spot by virtue of not playing and therefore not losing.

Cards are off life support and on the rise.

The Phillies keep not making a run.

    Padres in free fall mode.

It’s like they’re all playing hot potato.

Giants first to clinch playoff birth(earliest in franchise history) WOOT!

Updated: WINS NEEDED TIED TO WINNING % OF TOP CONTENDER FOR SECOND WC SPOT. Another change at the top, now with the Cardinals(.527) holding the top spot now projecting to 85 wins.

Braves 76-69, 17 to play, 9-8 to reach 85 wins, still hanging onto to the NLE but it’s win the East or go home with a head to head series with the Phillies yet to play.

    Cardinals 77-69, 16 to play, 8-8

    Reds 77-71, 14 to play, 8-6
    Padres 76-71, 15 to play, 9-6
    Phillies 75-72, 15 to play, 10-5

The Padres playing 2 more against the Cardinals, 4 against the Braves, 3 more against the Dodgers, and still another 6 against the Giants.

The Reds have 2 more against the Dodgers, and 2 against the White Sox

The Braves have 2 more against the Giants, 4 against the Padres, 3 against the Phillies

The Phillies have finally started a run with wins against the Cubs and Mets.

The Cardinals have 2 more against the Padres, and 7 against the Brewers.

Cards continue their push with a win over the Padres. This could be yet another Dodger rematch for the WC playoff.

Padres stop their plummet but with every remaining game against either the Reds, Dodgers, or Giants I can’t see them making it.

Giants fans clinching after dropping 2 to the Padres but all is right again with a Giants win and a Dodgers loss. Gaussman (pitcher) with a sac fly in the 11th for the walk off.
