Working through re-wiring my Aux battery and accessories (located in the rear of truck with the redarc).
Operation remove birds nest and add shunt/battery monitor.

I've encountered some issues with the first gen X1 mounting method which is 4 bolts directly through the bed rails.
    • Pain in the ass to reach the bolts. Like very very hard.
      • Because of location within channel.
      • Because wires get in the way.
    • Obstructs cable routing. Got 2 10 gauge and 2 6 gauge in the lower channel and the screws take a lot of room up. Gonna be interesting routing all the other wires down that channel for my fuse box. Might try to use upper channel.
Just a mock up of fuse/battery life panel. Work in progress.

I've now got a slot cut out in the panel and waiting for paint to dry. Also re-working my rear battery wiring and creating a cover.

The battery post was slightly too high. It's making contact but I cant take much more thickness off the board lol.

Yeah. Might have to drive up next year and have it re-sealed.

Does SP really not like inquiries about updated estimated install dates? I've tried emailing 3 times and calling twice over the course of the last month and a half, and haven't heard anything back. When I put down my 75%, the invoice email forecast 10-12 weeks, so I'm hopeful for a mid-October or early November install (which would be earlier than the December forecast when I first ordered 4/29). It would be awesome to have a little more specificity so I can plan some PTO around the drive. I get it if they can't be more precise, but even a response confirming the estimate in the invoice email would be helpful.

Ninja Edit: I was probably using the wrong email address like a bonehead. I spoke to Spencer who is a rad dude. Keep it up SP, I am stoked to be buying my favorite camper on the market.

I agree none of our estimates lined up with the invoice. Most got the word 1 or 2 weeks out. When we found out we pushed it out a month so we could plan the time but months ahead even if they state could change.

From your photos, I see several issues.

    1) The adhesive on the bulb seal has failed. Whether it is from excessive movement of the X-1 or improper prep with an adhesive promoter.
    2) The front and side pieces of the seal look completely disconnected. There are better ways to deal with a 90 degree bend with bulb seal and it is not to just cut it completely apart. Make a 45 degree notch on the inner side of the bend and then make it do the 90 degree turn. This will prevent issues down the line where it has completely separated and created a gap. It will also make any swelling/shrinking of the seal a non-issue as there is no physical gap between the pieces (other than the notch).

    Yea.
I mean I checked the hardware after some miles but was "tight". It must have started to loosen and moved a little.
I'm not kidding when I say I did 2-300 miles of corrugated desert roads in baja. That definitely did it. Maybe next year I'll go back up and have them re-seal if possible.

We're planning to leave for Baja right before Thanksgiving. You guys are making me kind of nervous. Hopefully they'll have new mounting brackets by then.

Whether they do or not, make sure you take the necessary tools to tighten them down. It'd be best practice when doing a trip like Baja or other off-road route to check your clamps every day.

They are slow to respond, but I’ve always got a response. I gave my 75 percent on 5/19 and they said 12 weeks out. Extended install date due to shortage on extruded aluminum. They extended the install to end of September. I now have an unknown date due to shortage of machined parts.

    I would second this.
When you have them mounted through the bed rail, it's a complete pain in the ass though.

Also depends what you'll do out there but as rule of thumb check them. I would even recommend using a torque wrench to be honest. With the second gen design which is flimsy, it might be hard to keep track of exactly how snug they are without yielding the clamp.

I’m in the same time frame. I emailed Josh on Wednesday and he replied today that he’s on the road and will check with the office and have them get back with me. I have almost the identical order/deposit/install time frame as you. I’ll be coming in from Detroit.

@Pdxfire1 - I gave my 75% deposit on 5/19 also, so we may be meeting up on the same install date! Josh said the same thing, end of September, and a week or so ago he said everything is getting build. I'm betting more like early-mid October....

Would it be possible to flip the mounts upside down. I suppose if the awning was too low the doors wouldn't open, but...

Is there a reason people stick the rubber gaskets to the bed caps instead of the bottom of the SP? Is there adhesive on both sides? My preference is to stick the gasket to the SP so I don't gum up my caps. I won't take it off too often, but when I do, I don't want to need to buy a new gasket.

In the world of truck shells/caps/canopies/<insert your silly name here>/campers, it is rare to apply the seal directly to the bed rails itself, unless you are Super Pacific or GFC. Every other application I have seen is applied to the top itself as that is when it is needed and when the topper is removed (even if temporarily), it is not only unnecessary to have it on top of the bed rails, it is exposed and unprotected.
