I am set up to get the KDM XXT tune this Saturday in San Antonio... then I found this tune thread... is there any word on how this one compares to the XXT?

I’ll leave this here, as my options are biased. Not to stir the pot with any kd guys. There two guys on this thread who compare the kdm xxt. Just saw @chanvchau this past Saturday to get Lucille tuned with the Coyoza tune. I am very pleased with the results and the truck runs so much better. Notice a difference from the start but got better the more you drive it. @chanvchau was super helpful and knowledgeable and was to able answering anything I asked. I recommended Chan and the coyoza tune for MT at least. I have a 2017 MT access cab.

Is there a way to purchase the file and do the tune myself if I have the vftuner software?

    Yes.

Contact Chan Chan / @chanvchau or reach out to the Coyoza Facebook page, or find the CVC Tuning TacomaWorld thread and inquire there, or you can go to the CVCTuning website which will take you to their Instagram last I checked.

    Hey guys

I had coyoza done today on my 2020 automatic transmission. I have noticed a hard shift when stopping at a light seems like between 2nd and 1st gear. Anyone have a issue with this ?

This hard shift is hard to narrow down to solely hardware related vs tune related because it's been noted that this can happen on stock trucks with stock tune too.

The most common thing reported with regards to this happening has been the possibility of low transmission fluid, and it's been noted as commonplace that the AT 3GT even frequently ships from factory with underfilled transmission fluid. This of course though is not an absolute or to say that it is guaranteed to be hardware related rather than tune related.

Nevertheless, the Coyoza AT tune was discontinued and no longer supported/offered prior to the sale of Coyoza to CVC, and so if it is still being flashed by other people, this is something you need to then discuss with both the individual who flashed your truck and possibly Chan Chan / @chanvchau

If CVC has authorized the flashing of the AT version of Coyoza, I am unaware of it. They have their own CVC Tune for the 3GT so I would not expect them to have committed to the Coyoza AT tune.

There are no official CVC Tuners with access to Coyoza AT tunes. If you got a Coyoza tune for your Automatic, please contact me and let me know to receive any support for the tune that's on your truck.

Awesome! I’m running premium SFOB on shell 91 and it’s fantastic! The jerkiness will go away once the tune settles in, so like 400-500 km at least.

I am curious about this coyoza tune though. Is it mike that came out to you?

Yes, it is Michael Anderson on BC Tacomas on Facebook that did my tune. I am going to get the Coyoza tune from him for a small additional $ when I go over to the mainland in Nov. Coyoza allows 87 octane but since I don't drive a lot I may stick with Chevron 94octane to avoid ethanol.

It may not apply to the modern day Tacoma, but in my '93 MR2 I get better power and fuel economy with 94 vs factory minimum 91 octane.

Prior to the OV tune I was keeping the RPMs at over 3k to get decent throttle response without having to downshift every time I wanted to accelerate. Now with OV there is great low rpm power and throttle response so I keep it around 2k rpm. A little too responsive/jerky in 1st gear, but I will gladly take it.

What Mike told me is that the OV Tune gets rid of the factory Atkinson Cycle Tune which helps with fuel economy but results in low power (torque) at low rpm. I'm glad to be rid of the Atkinson Cycle.

How much does he want for coyoza if you don’t mind me asking.

Yeah, all my Japanese vehicles ran better on E0 gas. More responsive and better gas mileage. Well it’s a wash I guess since you are paying for premium. I’ve always ran 91 E0 in my taco anyway so I’m used to it.

I honestly don’t think this Atkinson cycle does anything for fuel economy. I’m getting advertised or better MPGs on 31.6” C load KO2s.

Base OV tunes still have Atkinson cycle. We are running SFOB , which stands for super full Otto beta. I have a premium base tune that utilizes Atkinson but I didn’t try it yet, I like this SFOB a lot.

Well let me know how you like the coyoza, I’m thinking of trying it.

Mike advertises OV Tune for $450CAD and $500 for Coyoza on FaceBook. After the mix up where I ended up with OV and not Coyoza because the server went down, Mike charged me $350 for the OV, so I will pay him an additional $150 for the Coyoza when I meet up with him in Nov.

My understanding of the Atkinson Cycle is that is uses valve timing to extend the burn cycle causing compression to drop and fuel to be burnt more efficiently but at a cost of lower power at low rpm. Prius uses an Atkinson Cycle engine but has electric motor to launch, compensating for the AC's low torque with e motor instant torque.

Before the OV Tune I was compensating for the low torque by running at fairly high rpm and thus not getting very good fuel economy, around 15L/100kms in mostly city driving.

500$ damn. I paid about 550 for tactrix cable, vf software and 2 tunes I bought from a TW member.

Yep, Atkinson cycle holds the intake valve open a bit longer, thus losing the compression and “saving” gas.

I have always used 91 and my gas mileage has been pretty much the same stock or tuned. It’s a hair better on SFOB but nothing to write home about. In city traffic i always got anywhere from 13-14, which is not bad at all IMO. On highway can do 9.5-10 L per 100 if not going faster than 105 or so.

Just bought this tune, trying to flash it. First I tried to open it in VF Tuner, no joy "file is locked, contact owner." Then I tried VF Flash tool - I am sure the "file is corrupted" message is pilot error. Can anyone clue me in?
