I drove past a Bronco this morning and promptly laughed my ass off. I could say that Ford did an awesome job with the rollout ad campaign, well maybe if you read Boy's Life in the 1980's. I first thought I was behind a new MINI Countryman. It had just snowed and it was dark. This is it? This is the Tacoma threat that's going to be DEFCON 1? Yeah NOPE.

I can totally see Ford selling a tonne of these RETRO things, if you wear Ugg Boots, leggings, drink coffee and a basic lost in the rental fleet Ford Escape isn't good enough. It's basically there to fill a vacuum left by the VW beetle while offering a better service network than a MINI dealer with it's Countryman. The threat to the Tacoma well it's not found unless you're a little bitch.

IMO the ad campaign in a passing glance was like sea monkeys, x-ray glasses, etc that was found in the back of Boy's Life. You want to believe it, but it's just more shit that will get flushed down the toilet when your at school

It was probably the sport aka bronco2 aka bronco on the Ford escape. The big one isn't out yet

I never knew there was two. I've only looked at the promo stuff in passing. So now Chad is going to have to explain to Becky which Bronco he has. The cute one that screams my balls haven't dropped yet or the one that screams I think my 1st cousin is cute enough to fap too.

Pretty sure you saw the Bronco Sport which is more of a Rav4 competitor as that is already out for sale. As ovrlndkull already mentioned, the big Bronco won't be out till next summer or so and isn't available yet. And even when it becomes available, i doubt it'll be much of a threat to Tacoma. Maybe 4runner but not the Tacoma.

I mean Angry Chair, Dam that River, Godsmack, Would, not to mention I almost tear up every time I listen to Down in a Hole. That song is incredible. Probably the least appreciated/ most misunderstood band of their era.
This is how you derail a thread peeps.

Also you speak your third language better than most speak their first.

Fuck buddy, "down in the hole" really hit the spot when i had some shitty times. IMO AiC is very, very underated band, not sure why. Just look at the you tube view counts, its sad... Then you look at the view counts of some new terrible hip hop song and go: "wtf?..." They all sound the same and talk about vaginas, fame and money. Terrible.

Same goes for SRV, my FAVORITE:D guitar player and i think one of the best in the world. Has very little views, even on songs like "cold shot" or "pride and joy"

And thank you sir, took me about 2 years to be fluent at english. Spelling is a cunt sometimes though haha!

Sorry to continue the thread jack, but I just have to say how much I agree!

Their Unplugged performance was a great demonstration of just how good they really were! Those guys were true professionals!

Dirt was definitely an amazing album, and they have plenty of other great material on other albums as well.

I have never really been a hardcore fan, but I respect them as much as anyone else from that era, or any era for that matter.

I drove past the Bronco Sport the other day -- it was on the dealer's lot but I had a good look at it. I must say they did a great job. I can't wait until the whole lineup comes out and I can see it and drive it in person. I give Ford a lot of credit for making such a bold move. They don't make cars I like but I do like Ford. Great American company. I really hope the Bronco is a success ... I really would like to consider one.

Keep in mind a few things. I don't think Ford is going after the Tacoma with the Bronco. They have stated publicly they are targeting the Jeep. Probably a bunch of what I will call Tacoma light buyers but not anything substantial. I was just hoping they would egg Toyota on and have them bring back a redesigned Jeep / Bronco killer FJ. A guy can hope, can't he?

No leggings here ... but I will tell you ... I wore a pair of Uggs to the Quebec Winter Carnival and the weather was never greater than 0 degrees and my feet were completely warm. I'd even do it again.

    :)

I'm saying that toyota could engineer the NEXT tacoma to not need the cab chop for 35s or whatever. Its not a big change.

As these batteries become more commoditized, their prices will go down. The batteries in your tesla model S are the same exact cells in your Dell notebook computer. You are missing the point by making this argument. Renewables are only good in concept where they are used at the point of generation. Beyond that wind and solar are kind of a boon-doggle.

In the world of renewables, the renewable plants take up 10-50x as much concrete, silicone, wiring, etc than a comparable output from a nuclear plant. This doesn't even scratch the surface of the impact on the native wildlife where you build these renewable plants.

The irony is that because of renewables being so "peaky" we are building gas peaker plants to balance out the power delivery on a megawatt by megawatt level. So for every MW of renewables we build in, we also are building a MW of gas plants. This is good though, because gas is much cleaner than coal or oil.

What we need is more nuclear, but not 80 year old surplus nuclear bombs type stuff. Most nuclear power plant fuel is decommissioned nukes. What we need is to continue developing the thorium salt reactors.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thorium-based_nuclear_power

They solve most of the issues we have with nuclear power, at least in theory. America developed the idea, ironically to power nuclear bombers for the air force, and its a much better solution than our current systems.

    1) The fuel is liquid, so we can cycle it into the reactor until its all spent. Nuclear waste is primarily un-burned solid nuclear fuel.
    2) Thorium is extremely plentiful and CHEAP, as compared to uranium-235 that is vastly more rare and expensive than platinum.
    3) Molten salt is a failsafe, as in it doesn't need active cooling to prevent meltdown, if it cools down it solidifies into a sold.
    4) Thorium is much better suited to generating heat, but its terrible for nuclear bombs because its slow burn.
    5) Thorium reactors are small, dramatically smaller than our current nuclear plant reactors. (They had to fit inside a bomber.)

China is taking our technology and development that our Government paid for and are building a thorium reactor as we speak. It needs development, sure, but it has so many advantages over our current nuclear plants that its inevitable that it will revolutionize power generation.

All that being said, hybrid cars are just stupid with twice as much stuff to break. Battery cars make much more sense, but we lack the infrastructure to make these reasonable for most people and the added costs for the batteries makes the cars a poor buying choice. The Prius costs twice what a yaris cost and its the same size and you will never make up the cost difference even with 10 dollar gas.

So the release of the 2022 Tundra and sneak peeks of the 2022 Pro and TE editions have me thinking about this post I made almost one year ago. I still feel the way I did when I made it and I think the trends I mentioned in the OP are still true.

I do see Toyota taking baby steps. The TE and Pro Tacoma's for 2022 are rumored to be lifted from the factory with TRD manufactured aluminum UCAs and taller front coils. That's exactly the type of thing I was asking for a year ago. Hopefully they continue to expand on this.

I'm also hearing that the Tacoma is looking at a redesign somewhere around 2024-2025, so it's safe to say we've got what we've got in terms of body lines and powerplants for the next couple years. However, in 2024 I'm fully expecting a new motor with hybrid options. The Tundra got a 6 cyl with an iForce hybrid option. I would expect the Tacoma to get something similar to those. Also the 6 speed Automatic is going to have to go. In a world of 8, 9 and 10 speed autos, the 6 speed is going to be trashed. I hope and pray that they keep the 6MT option available long into the future because I am a huge manual guy. Manual trans have been disappearing for decades but the fact that Jeep has kept theirs and Bronco just developed a brand new one gives me hope that there's enough demand for Manuals out there that Toyota will keep it available for Tacoma.

Since you mentioned the 3rd gen Tundra, I find it interesting that a rear locker will be available. Didn't I hear ol Mr. Sweers say that Tundra buyers don't really use their trucks that way, and that's why that particular option wasn't avail on the 2nd gen?
Guess their marketing research has showed them something different lol!
