I think Toyota is a lot more reliable with their reveals.

TRD Pro would look better with less Pro badging. Get rid of that Pro tailgate for the standard one, and delete the tactical camo from the exterior plastic.

Factory cans of plastidip should be standard on the Pro.

What are you averaging in that? I’m 1500 miles in and still on the original tank of gas the dealership put in.

Probably an attempt at the huge tailgate badging you see on the RAM’s and Raptors. Only missing some bedside stickers now.

Yes but they unveiled the specs. It isn't a matter of "hey this is coming someday." It's "this is the 2022 Tundra."

Yeah, outside of teslahate, I don't get the comparison. One was a pre preproduction vehicle unveiling and the other was an actual truck you can buy and have in a few months.

It's been a week. I'm still on the first tank too. :p

I might get 80 miles of motor time a week in soon, though.

Nope, not gonna happen. As of now only the Mirai, Prius Prime & Rav4 Prime are eligible vehicles made by Toyota. For a plug in it has to have a minimum range of 30 miles.

Light duty is anything with a GVWR under 14k. Google isn't telling me what the 2022 Tundra is but the 2021 was 6,900 - 7,200. Safe to say the GVWR won't be the deciding factor any time soon. Keep holding your breath for that plug-in Tundra....and that it can go 30 miles on electricity  Ford's new Lightning is coming out soon, which means Yota should have something of an idea of their response in 15-37 years....

Not to detail but I want that thing bad once I replace my Volt. Me & the girlfriend are having a baby this month & the Volt barely has room for the car seat, let alone human legs in a few years. It's the 2nd quickest vehicle offered by Toyota (0-60 5.5s), 2nd best mileage (Prius)...and isn't a Prius.

I am mystified how Toyota creates these more polarizing designs and yet sales keep speeding up. Online criticism is just louder I guess or that Americans like to make a strong statement with the vehicles they drive.

Personally, I have felt that the 4Runner lost it's inoffensiveness, when it went from this in 1996 to this in October 1998.
    toyota_4runner_36.jpgtoyota_4runner_74.jpg
And the Tundra, when it was redesigned in 2007. It looked like a muscular steel marshmallow, after its update for the 2014 model year (launched on August 20, 2013) where they tried to clean it up and not as polarizing, as it has become again for 2022.

When first saw the final design for the P702 (2021 F-150) in early 2019 (assigned to T3 then), I was shocked at how vanilla looking it was compared to the outgoing truck (P552), which I own in Raptor form. The outgoing truck was more expensive to stamp, with certain flourishes that gave a lego effect between the grille meeting the headlights. They simplified that under previous CEO's orders, during the styling process in 2017.

Toyota here has done the opposite. Spent more money on the jazzing up the truck, since the cost consolidation savings will be spread out via TNGA-F.

    And BTW, thanks!

Yep, ain't nobody getting no twin turbo V6 in no Tacoma. It would be nice, but handicap the business case for certain Tundras. I really hope they might reverse course, at least for TRD Pro.

I didn't disagree with that, it was just ironic seeing the same wording used against the old truck, which everyone seems to be praising and attacking this one.

Easy to take such things out of context and run with surface observations. The Explorer issues had more to do with the subordinate executive in charge of it (fired) and the factory in question being in a disaster zone of corruption, with no adequate pre-production phase per Ford standard, because of his arrogance.

There is no Bronco fiasco, considering that it was launched during a global pandemic and resulting chip shortage, plus is a more specialized vehicle than a Tundra. That right there I strongly disagree with, being that Webasto has problems of their own aggravating the situation even more and the fact pilot production was a hellish challenge to achieve during the worst days of 2020.

Not to mention the crazy amount of volume to be churning, is near impossible to meet in a limited capacity factory on only two shifts.

In terms of the Mach-E, not sure what you are referring to.

Trying to side-step my actual context, doesn't negate that the F-150 is the best for a reason as I stated, as that is my field of work, T3 composing of Super Duty, F-150, Expedition, and Navigator. And the successors.

Toyota trying as they may, will never reach the success of the F-150 with the Tundra nor be ever as competitive in the current market. Toyota can only achieve that, by taking the Tundra global, as we have in select markets abroad. It is ironic how I can walk into some African dealerships and order an F-150, but I cannot do so with a Tundra, which would last longer in the same environment.

Toyota needs to stop being so gun shy, particular in places where more lax regulations allow for such vehicles. Barely are even launching Lexus south of the border, after 32 years.

Fraud = / = , as no company is perfect or flawless.

??? Been said so many times there are no 4 cylinder Tundras coming and only TTV6, not to mention fully revealed and official now. Ain't no rumor.

Boy coming after batacoma for taking away his camo...

Don't make that boy come after you or he's gonna spray your eyes out. Don't mess with his tactical lyfe!

I somehow forget to reply to this by accident, but I can agree with this PERSONALLY. I kept my two older SVT Raptors with the 6.2 Liter V8. A 2010 and 2014. I've owned 2 Ecoboost Raptors (on my second one), but I couldn't imagine getting rid of my 6.2s.

My 2010 has over 200k on it (bought it used at 25k mi, now more of a toy) and my 2014 SCrew has 60k on it (bought it with 29k on it). My fiance added a Whipple supercharger to my 2014 and to tell you the truth, as someone that likes powerful NA I6 or V8 engine vehicles where I can find them, I wasn't too pleased at how that was done without my permission.

However, those two feel agricultural by comparison to the aluminum bodies, TTV6 Raptors I own. My 2019 Raptor is like what BMW would do if they ever made a pickup and is a joy to commute in to work. I couldn't say the same about my older SVT Raptors, that would probably get tiring real fast. Ditto for GT350, we both share.

As for the Bronco, I strongly disagree. This vehicle was last a full-sized product based on the F-150 and the decision to the bring back this vehicle, has always been one to mate it to the Ranger and not have a V8. The product positioning picks up from where Bronco II did in 1989 and not the OJ Bronco (with big ole V8).

The U260 Bronco development in the late 1990s, came about after the 1997 Bronco became the Expedition to align with Explorer nameplate. Even though the 2002 Explorer would offer a V8, it wasn't necessarily being considered for the Bronco reboot. That was killed due to the Firestone fiasco in 2001 and didn't see resurrection until 14 years later and now it's here. So, it never would've been V8 powered anyway. If FCA had steadily offered the Wrangler with a V8 for the past few years and not at the 11th hour, well it might have been in consideration at least for an special Bronco. When that is refreshed for 2025, we'll see how that goes.

Really enjoy your posts but the comments critiquing TMC's global marketing strategies left me scratching my head a little since...

    Global sales 2020 US$

    TMC $249B
    FMC $129B

They should be more like Ford?

This sounds very apologetic. So the explorer issues are to be excused because someone was "fired" as a scapegoat? I surely doubt it was due to a singular individual when 1000s are involved in a vehicle launch. So yes, it still falls on the company. That launch was a nightmare.

Bronco =/= chip shortage. There quality issues have nothing to do with computer chips. They didn't launch a FULLY VETTED PRODUCT, regardless of "complexity", that's once again an excuse. Instead they launched something that should have never gone through QC and now having a giant dirt mountain ordeal to try and rectify 1000s of vehicles. Not acknowledging that this is a fiasco seems rather strange.

Mach-E is having incredible dealer servicing issues, because ford wasn't ready for a full EV switch, techs are not yet equipped to service/repair a software heavy vehicle. So customers are left with vehicles that have no working solution for a fix, as corp has to issue software updates etc.

I am not sure what quantifies the F-150 as BEST FOR A REASON? Best in what? Sales? They dropped to #3 behind silverado + ram, based on the latest sales data. Also the way ford groups their sales isn't exactly apples to apples. If you group GMC+Silverado for example GM is #1. Ford is riding on a lot of heritage due to having been a market leader in the past. But that has been eroding with Ram+Chevy/GMC taking huge chunks out of their sales base. That doesn't happen to someone who is #1. Sears was #1 also...

Tundra was never measured up because toyota decided to not update it since 2007, where as ford went though 3 generations since. However the current Tundra... is force to be reckoned with. I would be hard pressed to give my money to ford considering how much improvement happened on the toyota side.

Feel ya there on the manual transmissions....

I still have my 2015 Taco 4-cyl 5-spd. Paid it off couple months ago.

I would love a 105 series with a Turbo Diesel and that 5-spd!!!! :benchpress:

Hate to break it to you, but those are just different trim levels. My '99 Limited looks like your "1996" model.
    Glass headlights FTW though

My 1st gen Tacoma doesn't even clear my garage head plate unless the bed is loaded
And pretty much anyone with a full size truck in my hood has to park in the driveway
