Took a quick trip to Catalina State Park just a bit N.E. of Tucson - nice park - nice showers -
Wife built the chuck-box ( chick-box? )... nice to get up and grind up some fresh
    roasted beans in the morning....

Lots of wildlife - make a friend while I was there.

Woah - hope you used a zoom lens! Rattlesnakes fascinate me but scare the crap out of me. I love watching them from about 10' away.

Oh yea, Nikon D3300 and a Nikon 55-200mm lens

Working with the shadows and sunlight is tricky, give me one or the other but both is tricky on the camera.
I'm in my 60's and ain't got time to play let's get bit by a rattler game.... so ... yea... zoom..

Cool as hell - or hot as hell -
I bet you could get some killer milky way shots there - may have to trip on out there.

Pretty rad spot, but its too quiet for me. At least while I was there the sand dampened the sound in that bowl so much that I could hear my own heart beat at rest. Drove me crazy. My wife loved the silence though, said it relaxed her immensely.

Edit: Also that kit fox is cute as hell. Love those little guys.

When we were out by Doheny Beach a few weeks back. Keeping it simple with a Napier tent. Not pictured: our small picnic table and stove plus a Coleman filled with beer

Care to share some details/link for that flatbed setup?

NVMD, found the website. Slick builds. Maybe someday…

I did a solo trip a few winters ago to a very remote area. It was a nice day, just about 32*F but really bright sun that was melting some of the snow on the ground. By the time I found a spot to camp for the night it was dark out and unbelievably still and quiet. As I was setting up camp, before the fire was going, I remember being able to hear the melt water draining through the snowbanks. And as the temp dropped and everything started to re-freeze there was the most faint crackling / popping sounds. Talk about quiet!

Looks like a great trip. Last year I escaped the smoke at Eureka

That fox shot is really cool. Unique experience of desert fauna.
I've experienced the same experience with the silence that you described. The silence in the desert is amazing and for me it is calming.
