Cargo Carrier on Bed Rack

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on the Max Modular bed rack by KB Voodoo, but on an upcoming trip with myself and 3 passengers I'm going to have to figure out how to mount a cargo carrier (enclosed and waterproof) on top. Most of the cargo carriers I'm looking at require cross bars (running left to right) for mounting, and the left to right bars on the roof rack will be too far apart (46" or 58" depending on which size rack I go with). Does anyone know of a solution for this? Maybe somebody makes a cargo carrier with more mounting versatility that isn't outrageously priced? The ones I have looked at don't have any mounting versatility. The cheapo I'm interested in requires cross bars (left to right) spaced at exactly 22".

If there are more options with cargo baskets, I could consider using a basket with a net and have the gear in there in dry bags. Thanks in advance.

 

This is how I manage camping gear I use bins on top and underneath I was lucky and found the basket on Craigslist cheap. Yakima mega load warrior just about covers the whole short bed.

 

Thanks for the input. Unfortunately I don't think that style of bed rack would work for my purposes. Hoping somebody has come up with some alternative mounting options for bed racks that don't have typical cross bars, for accessories like a cargo carrier that require typical cross bars.

 

Maybe check out the Pelican cargo box line…not the gun cases but the cargo line. They have mounting options too and I’m sure you could mount to the rack. I have the bx90 and have a report on TW you could read. Latches on mounts suck arse but I recently received an improved set from pelican. Mine goes on my roof rack when needed for longer trips.

You’ll also like that voodoo rack. I have their 10” aluminum model and serves my needs quite well.

Recently did this after selling the RTT and wanting our cargo box in a better spot.

Existing bed rack is a victory 4x4 and as you've noted the bars are too far spaced for the feet on the cargo box. I picked up some 1" square aluminum and rubber caps from HD and cut to size with a dremel. Drilled a few holes and mounted them to the V4x4 rack, then the cargo box to there.

Also moved the bike rack from the roof as well for easier access.

 

Perfect. Thanks for sharing. I will do exactly this. Or I might even use wooden 2x4's since I won't be needing the cargo carrier often. Really just need it for one trip coming up so I don't care if it looks ugly as sin.

 

Maybe I'm misunderstanding. I have a set of bed bars that mount into the bed rails... So you can space them at whatever interval you need. I got the CBI ones (linked below), but lots of companies make cheaper options...

Have a look at this TW Tread. Not my truck but I am using the same set up on my 3rd Gen with a hard shell roof top luggage carrier instead of the basket. All the hardware stays connected to the carrier and can take it on/off in under 2 minutes.

I went similar to @Spanky3412 but with a half rack so I can put bikes, skis, fishing poles, or kids kayaks on the other side. It even fits nicely under my soft topper, and my kayaks fit under it.

Yeah, I'd just put 2x4s or 2x6s across the bars and be done with it, too. Especially since it sounds like a one-time job.
