You had mentioned that you thought we had two brake light switches. I did a google search with those words, but did not come up with much information. Have you worked on both switches before?

Not yet, it's in the parking lot at my wife's school. We plan on going back after dinner. 99% chance it will start after resting this long

If it still isn't running, try fuckin w the brake pedal. Slapping it hard, letting it same up etc.

Why do you push the gas pedal when trying to start it? In your video you say gas pedal. And from the looks of it you’re in accessories mode (when you push the start button when not holding the brake pedal).

I mean am I missing something else?

Push brake pedal and start button at same time. Not gas pedal.

Actually op, that's a good point. Next time it Acts up, u should try starting it without the brake pushed, that'll tell you if it's a brake switch.

Push start button once- let go

Push and hold for a while (something like 20 seconds) and see if it starts.

Ya, totally misspoke. I was pushing the brake, I promise you that. Otherwise I would never get the car to start! But good catch.

When it's having this issue, thats exactly how it starts up, as if it is in accessory mode.

That is excellent, and sucks! At least you didn't need a tow.

To test, it might be best to drive it around then only shut it off at home?

I didn't even know this was a feature. This can work at all times?

Ya, thats what I was trying to do. I ran several short errands and never shut it off, but on the last one, I did shut it down on accident. It's a pretty ingrained habit o_O

It would be hella hard to remember. Leaving it running for errands would be very uncomfortable also. I feel for you.

From your video: Every indication on the dash showed that the brake pedal was not depressed and needed to be when the start button was pressed. There is no security warning or other indications that the key is not recognized.

    Only two options:
    1. you’re not pressing the brake at the same time as pressing the start button
    2. the brake switch signal is not getting to the Keyless start module (or ECM) to allow the truck to start
Either way test for consistency and try to get exact repeatability so that the cause can be determined, this will help shorten the time of troubleshooting for the tech and helps you explain when it does and doesn’t do something.

A good automotive electrical troubleshooter will walk the circuit with their test light and find where the issue lies if you are pressing the brake and it’s still not starting.

Push to start has been around for a long time almost 20 years, the only problems I’ve heard about is when:
    • Batteries are dead in the key fob or car
    • Electrical switch failure on the brake
