You'll find someone once you explain that ADS is basically a King replica. :cookiemonster::crapstorm:

    Whole lotta stuff
King replica without the hideous blue and some marginally better components, or at least that's what they say. :lalala:

Haha. I'm sure there is some validity to that. I just like to throw that out when I have the opportunity. It pisses off the fan boys. :stirthepot:

With shocks, there's 1000 guys mashing the keyboard about minutiae about why "their" brand is better for every 1 guy that can take any of them and tune them well enough to blow the doors off the other guys' trucks. If it's about holding up to salt and there's a brand that does it better that's important if you're in that environment, but other than that it's simply silliness.

I would say that most consumer industries are like that. It was the same when I worked in firearms retail and people even compare the pros of their cell phones over another brand. It’s a consumer biased mainly to justify their purchase.

I agree that a lot of times the differences are insignificant and users won’t use the product to its full potential but these variances can be worth understanding. Sometimes, these minor differences can make a significant impact on product performance and should be worth notating. (Overlapping vs staggered bypass tube layout or no top out washers on certain brand shocks)

That’s only a factor for the the 1/1000 guys that actually take the time to tune. Guys that do, make old off brand shocks lots of other guys look down their noses at outperform the brand matched baller builds. Nothing against well informed decision making but it’s mind numbing to read about guys in a pee pee measuring contest about which brand makes their broverlandrunning the gnarliest.

A lot of people didn’t like my answer when asking how my truck works so well when my video blew up earlier. Apparently 3 years of valving changes and tuning doesn’t suit most people’s instant gratification needs. That said I had zero people interested in here when I said I’d sell my shocks pre-tuned for $7500 lol

Asking the real questions. I do live in a salt state. King or ADS? which holds up better?

I have both on my truck. The ADS bypasses have survived 3 NJ winters without any corrosion.

Had my King coilovers cerakoted black and the first winter the threads started to rust because they didn’t work the product in far enough. I’m suspecting there’s no plating if Kings go to coating; I think it was a $150 upcharge.

ADS does both standard, no extra charge; clear ceramic and plating in my case.

I clean the truck a few times a week in the winter.

I don't have any experience to base this off of but I'd guess ADS would be the better option. They are built outside of CA so they have a little more freedom of what coating/chemicals/processes they can use. CA regulates that industry pretty hard.

I heard stories about fox being subpar, any truth behind this?

EDIT: Doing about 5 minutes of research tells me Foxes are better than Kings with stronger shafts and higher VI fluids.

Well that was worded funny, there's a joke in there somewhere. o_O

After 3 Michigan winters my daily driven King coilovers dont look horrible, the smooth bodies in the rear took much more of a beating from the weather

...just depends on how you wash your truck in the winter too. I fluid film and use hot pressure washer in the winter after every trip or big snow to clean the nasty salt off

Fox has a better coating to handle the winters better from my understanding

I only said fox because I heard the main reason Ford went with Fox on the Raptor was their ability to withstand their corrosion testing. Not sure where they are built so maybe better protection on those in particular??? Or I’m just dead wrong.

I have had the best luck with ADS over fox
The fox's on my taco only ever saw one winter wheeling trip and were pretty beat up. The ADS on my Tundra look better and it only gets washed once a year whether it needs it or not and has seem 3 winters.

There are pictures in my build thread of what they looked like when they came off.

In my opinion, my Fox Factory series 2.5 DSC are holding up ok after a few years as regards the main body, shaft and caps, reservoir, but the hose fittings are only zinc plated and are complete red rust

I'm sorry, retail firearms has to be one of the worst hells on earth yet imagined.

That's not a bad price for the full set, with good tuning. Of course it'll be wrong for everyone else's truck...
