I guess you can’t anymore. My bad. My experience was from February 2021. Supply chain sucks right now.

You couldn't then either if my knowledge is correct. I also bought a new Tacoma at that time, and was able to 'order' one using the Toyota Match system. Basically as previous people have said you tell them what you want, and they check 'Match' for a Taco with those specs, typically it's pretty easy to do even for odd configurations. Then you wait for it to be produced and delivered which has the appearance of an order specific to you but really was not. For example, most dealers don't bid on manual 6 ft. bed Taco (instead they bid on popular configs) so those are easier to secure than you'd think when someone comes along looking for that setup.

I’ve been searching for a few months and it seems to depend on the dealership. Some will place a “special order” for you, most won’t. Those that won’t take your name and then never call back because of the imbalance between supply/demand. Then the special order is 9 months out. Burien Toyota near Seattle is willing to reserve a TRD Pro in your choice of color in this way.

My take on this, they put you in the match system as the above poster said and say 9 months so that when a match comes up sooner, you’re a stoked customer. Both posters could be correct depending on how their dealer couches the “reservation.”

There is a different thread that has wait times for people waiting for theirs and what not and the title may be confusing but there’s more info on there and I don’t want to clutter this with anything not related to paying for a 2021 Tacoma. Definitely look at that thread and read back some time. But here’s a little bit of how it works.

They build way in advance and any crazy unicorn configuration that you can think of have already been in that lineup as well. There may not be a huge pool of those configs and the wait may be even longer for it to come back through production but they use past data for every build.

For allocations, dealers receive the amount of allocations by previous sales. So if that dealer isn’t moving a lot of Tacoma’s compared to a dealer that has a high volumes of sales then the chance of them getting that allocation is slim. Not saying they won’t ever get it but it will take a lot longer for them. So if that dealer seems to be twiddling their thumbs there’s a chance they don’t move a lot of Tacoma’s and know it will be a hassle.

Adding Nerf Bar steps, because my daughter and wife are not tall. :)
I paid MSRP plus upgrades for a 2021 Magnetic Gray Metallic TRD Off-Road. I didn't notice a high-demand premium added, but I would have understood. All-Weather Floor Mats, dealer installed door edge protection, tint, etc. Pretty basic set up for a TRD Off-Road, which was my goal. Total was just about 41k plus taxes, tags, etc. I was just happy that they had one. In fact they had a white TRD Off-Road with long bed as well, but my wife does not like white vehicles and I preferred the short bed anyway. They were both double-cabs. They sold 2 SR5's while I was there as well. It's pretty nuts.

    This was on 9/10/2021.

2021 TRD PRO Had them tint the windows and put 285-75/16's Cooper STT Pro's on. Grand total $50k. Beaverton Toyota in Oregon. This was in July. I got lucky as they had one in the pipeline that I was able to get my name on.

This is after I installed a Wescott Lift/Level and 1.25" Spidertrax wheel spacers. Waiting for my rock sliders to finish up production and she should be all done. I had to trim the front bottom bumper and zip tie the liner.

I guess I don't understand the definition of "order". My Dealer told me he had "one in the pipeline". I put down $500 to "Order It". He gave me a build date for my "Order" and when it came in early a month later I picked it up. Kind of like "Ordering" at Mc Donalds other than Mc Donalds doesn't require a deposit.

$50K OTD???? With those upgrades on a PRO??
I'd need to see the actual sales documents to believe this one!

Definitely a lot of terminologies for “Order” but as one of them would be to Order something to be made as in you went straight to Toyota and said I want to order a truck with this this and this. That dealer had an allocated truck already in the pipeline that was already scheduled to be built if not built already that was going to that dealership regardless if you inquired on it or not.

If they didn’t have one allocated to them yet you would have put the deposit down and been waiting for that dealer to get an allocation for a trim as close to the specs as you wanted. Now if it didn’t have everything you wanted then you would just have to deal with what they were allocated because they can’t say “oh the customer isn’t going to take the truck because it doesn’t have this” they don’t care. They get what trucks they can.

These trucks are slated to be built way in advance and chances are way before you even went to that dealer. You just stumbled in at the right time and most likely it was one that someone backed out of. Especially if your wait time wasn’t very long

That was my actual final price and exact package, that was the factory VIN and not my VIN so I'm fine with sharing it. - By the way, my interior is actually black, the only "cement" is the center section of the seats. Not sure if that's what they mean by cement or if I got a mismatch, I like the black interior.

Justification for the ‘Market adjustment’ was that the downtown Portland Toyota location has had a lot of problems with graffiti and vandalism…. Seems like other people are seeing a similar $3k markup?

I just moved to Dover, DE and I was not finding ANY Tacoma's in the state. A local dealer finally had a limited but they did a $2,500 "market adjustment" markup on it. I didn't want a limited anyway and finally found what I wanted in a state over. It is certainly a crazy time to be being vehicles!

That’s about $50 less than what I paid for my Pro. I would find a new dealer and if not look into fly and buy.

Sales guy saw you coming! That's just BS!
If you need to pay to maintain their business? Then you should have some sort of profit sharing!

A lot of people are not specifying if they got a 4WD or 2WD? That makes a lot of difference in price.
