My first employer in the IT field, I was part of a 4 person on-call rotation. We had a Motorola "Murder weapon" bag phone and pager that we carried 7x24 for the full week you were on-call. Kind of a PITA when you went grocery shopping, out to dinner,...... but it would connect from damn near anywhere.

Edit: Meant to include, this was 1994 to around 2000 or so.

Most are painless to use, but I always end up needing assistance at my local supermarket because I placed the item a few inches to far away or off-center or some BS.

 

We all love the self-checkout registers.

 

I haven't had these issues since the beginning of self check-out. Now it's just a matter of getting the attendant to help when buying alcohol.

 

The self checkout stuff works solidly at the stores I go to, and there's no dumb-bunny putting a package of raw chicken on top of stuff that I'm not gonna be cooking, or dropping canned goods onto the tomatoes and bread.
