Yea upside down was way to low. These aluminum pieces I added worked for me and I can park in the garage with my awning now.

yah you will be fine. Just bring tools. glad I did. I had my strut go back (had to make a crutch froma Mexican commercial hardware shop which I happen to have t slots for). tool to tighten my brackets and a cut off wheel and other to trim my prinsu more as it was hitting it.

Overall it was was fine no MAJOR issues. the tent strut was the biggest buzzkill but only had it down a couple of days. Good thing my son is only 3 so moved the Exped to the bed for a couple of days. On my way back up I found a screw in my rear tire and my spare already had one then we all s plit up at the border. I was worried about that most of the other stuff. Annoying yet but not end of the world.

rear X1 door is ok? Mine in the normal position stops it but its enough for it to be open.

The passenger side x1 door does hit the awning but opens enough to be fine. Both passenger and rear also are stopped from fully opening when the 270 is deployed, hitting the metal support arms of the awning. I’ll have to cover the awning support arms with foam or something. I played around with the doors as they were supposedly height adjustable but there’s not much adjustment available lol

It seems like you have this figured out, but you could also try to find the original awning brackets SP sold. Maybe they have some still or someone would want to trade. They don't angle up. I would have the same problem in my garage. IMG_1863.jpg IMG_1864.jpg

Talked to Josh at SP over the last couple days via email. Planning on seeing them at the Expo on Sunday. Will be nice to finally meet everyone and see a X1 in person. About a month before getting ours too.

Also.. had him make a note to keep glass for my windows.

I had my install done yesterday (9/22/2021).
It was done so quickly after waiting so long (initial deposit was on 2/1/2021; original due date was 9/2/2021).
The install took about 45 minutes including time to teach me the basics.
    upload_2021-9-23_10-25-48.jpg

    My X1 is #112
    upload_2021-9-23_10-29-29.jpg

The clamps look secure (3 per side) and I was told that they will need to be tightened after ~500 miles as the bulb seal flattens over time.
The bulb seal was attached to the X1 and no adhesives/seals were applied to my truck bed rails.
    upload_2021-9-23_10-32-20.jpg

Here's a picture of the front corner. The seal looks complete.
    upload_2021-9-23_10-33-17.jpg

Windows are plastic. I was a little dismayed since one of my invoices specifically identified "3/16 inch tempered glass" for the rear door window.
The lead installer (not sure of his name) said they have gone to the plastic because it is lighter and handles glare better.
He mentioned the plastic was more expensive.
    Ah well.
    upload_2021-9-23_10-37-1.jpg

Weight is 380 pounds (actually 370 lbs +10 lbs for Exped air mattress). I did the CAT scale at a truck stop on I-5 in Aurora (south of Portland).
Cost was $12.50 for the first weight and $3 for the second (has to be same place within 24 hours). Full tank of gas prior to both weights being recorded.
My truck weighed 4420 lbs before (bone stock) and 4800 lbs after.
With a GVWR of 5600 lbs, I'v got plenty of payload capacity.

SP also provided a box of swag
    upload_2021-9-23_10-48-43.jpg
and a panel with cutouts when requested (thanks for the person who had suggested asking for this)
    upload_2021-9-23_10-49-57.jpg

Driving home the truck felt "different"; not as nimble?
I had an aerodynamic canopy previously (ARE MX) so the X1's boxier/bigger profile makes a difference.
A fairing will be one of the projects I'll be pursuing. My gas mileage definitely took a hit.
On the drive up I averaged 24 mpg, and 22 mpg on the way home (virtually all highway).

I was a bit nervous about whether the truck would fit in the garage, but I had no worries on that score
    upload_2021-9-23_10-58-4.jpg

My garage ceiling is rediculously tall, so I am able to open the tent inside
    upload_2021-9-23_10-59-49.jpg

Thanks to Jason's reminder, I added the X1 to my auto insurance policy (Geico).
I was passed around to different agents because they were unsure of whether to insure it as an RV or a modification to my truck.
They went with the modification, so I am paying an extra $52 per year.

I was surprised about two aspects (in addition to the plastic window):
-Truck bed openess: I had thought that the tent floor could be retracted so that the entire truck bed is open.
That is true for short beds, but on a long bed like mine, there's an overhang of 1 foot at the front.
-difficulty of closing and opening the latches. When the demonstration was done at the shop, the installers made it look easy.
When I got home (even after applying the Boeshield), I had a bit of a struggle getting latches closed and open.
Making sure everyting was tucked in and putting sufficient downforce on the latches wasn't easy for me.
I think I will become more adept over time.

In conclusion, I am very satisfied with my new camper.
It is huge and I can't wait to try it out camping. Especially this winter.
Being able to stand up is a game changer for me.

Thanks for the Geico info. I have to do mine too and will contact them.
Was debating switching from Geico though.

The two factors I seen with clamp issues:

Group A has no clamp issues:
    Putzing around town/camp road.

    Group B has clamp Issues:
Couple hundred of miles of constant corrugation at 30mph+

So although the current clamp design works for 90% of use case, it should encompass 100% of use case to be deemed a success.
The simplest fix is if they would add at least 2 more clamps on each side. Not a pricey thing either.

    @Corverde

Lol I'm on hold, the guy is trying to figure out if it's considered an RV.

    Update:
Added an initial 16K worth of mods to my policy for an additional $23 a month.
We'll to be accurate, I also increased certain coverage for the truck so some of the increase is from that as well.

    Congrats!!

Open and closing does take some practice. Honestly I find that having the side doors rolled up makes it tuck much easier.

My seal was attached to the shell not the bed as well, but I'm almost 100% certain I have 2 clamps per side not the 3

Also had it added to my insurance (AmFam) about the same price. My agent took a while to figure out what it was too.

Nice, looks good! I am build #110, just got it installed last Friday. I also struggled with the blue latches even after lubricating, however I noticed after a few days and using them it gets easier and smoother.

Good call out the panels with cutouts, I totally forgot to ask for some! However I just live 20 min down the road from them and need to come back in a few weeks anyway so they can add the extra rivets to the corners, so I'll need to remember to ask then.

BTW, I hope you guys don't mind this Colorado owner invading your sweet Tacoma forum...lol. It's just that this is easily the best source of info and community of SP owners out there, and I've been lurking for a while so I figured I should probably join. :)

Looking forward to sharing some mods soon. I'm currently struggling to figure out the 3rd brake light taps...it's not quite as easy on the colorado as the brake light and turn signal share the same wire, so I need to get a logic thing to separate them I guess. Ughh

Dang I didn’t know they had a previous version. This might have saved me a lot of time. I talked to the guys at SP about what I was doing with the awning brackets and they didn’t mention they had those.

so do we just kind of guesstimate how much we need or do they require receipts?

I would ask your insurance guy. My issue with Geico is that you're stuck with a rando on the phone. He said he didn't need receipts right now and was a little unclear about if I ever needed to provide them.
You might need to provide them when if you file a claim. I myself am taking pictures of the truck with every mod. I miss my old provider that had a physical office. The old school way you could call him and he'd be very clear and traceable.
