    ok...

stock truck. no lift. no intention of lifting (yet).

i currently have stock steelies. i'm assuming they are 16x7 @ +38ish. and the stockers always seem about 1" too far in to me, but anyway...

using this link as an example of what's available from Volk

    http://www.slowboyracing.com/volk_racing/volk_racing_wheels_te37_large_pcd/g-52761.aspx

(no i am not paying $800 per wheel)

i am thinking 18x8 @ +20, which would yield a 5.3" backspace (right??). i could run 265/60/18 or 265/65/18, but would probably stick with the lower profile since the most off roading i do is the beach and trails to shooting areas; i'm not tackling anything more, ever. there are several good tires available in 60 series. also, this would then give me a combo that sticks out about an inch from stock, which i think would be ideal aesthetically. and it would allow me the bronze wheels. not my favorite color but i'm not going to powdercoat such incredibly expensive wheels. between the tires and the wheels i wouldn't want to pay for that on top of it all.

i could go +30, but i'm pretty sure that would give me the same basic setup as stock in terms of how close it is to the fender and suspension. it'd stick out a little more than half an inch vs. stock. i'd rather the +20.

please tell me if i'm way off here...

Where are you buying the wheels and how much are you paying? I have some 18x8 +20 that I might be selling. Also, the wheel you are looking for is discontinued so good luck getting it. It'd have to be a special order item which will take at least 6 months to receive.

the +20 is discontinued, or they all are, or what? i haven't found info regarding the +20 being discontinued. let me know. thanks!

also, what tires did you run and were there any issues? EDIT, nevermind i saw the feeler thread.

The 18x8 wheel is discontinued. They replaced it with a 18x9 with a 0 offset. You can still order the wheel but it's a special order (they can make any wheel you want) which currently takes 6+ months to make and ship. Rays/Volk doesn't ship until they have a full container to ship which takes a while to fill.

I had 285/65 Toyo AT's on the wheels at first and they fit fine. Then I swapped them out for some 35/12.5 KM2's. My truck isn't stock so I can't really comment on fitment of the tires.

Here's with 35's on the wheel.

looks great. i'm glad you actually use 'em too, haha.

    thanks for the info.

hmm....so 18x9 with 0 offset. 5" BS. that would make the damn thing stick out about 2" if i rocked a 265/60...something i'm not opposed to, actually. IF IT WORKS.

i wonder if that would give me rubbing issues? 2" doesn't seem like all that much in this fender well but it's so hard to tell.

People call me crazy for using them but they are technically the strongest wheels you can get for our trucks. They hold up pretty well to any abuse.

I would personally go with the 18x9 wheels unless you like the flat spokes on the 18x8 wheels. Since the wheel is wider the spokes on the 18x9 wheel cave in and look a little nicer, in my opinion. 265 might be a little narrow of a tire on that wide of a wheel though. It might look a little stretched out.

    thanks.

i agree. the less offset, the better (from an aesthetics perspective).

i could go 275/65 instead of 265/60 but that'd be a 32 at that point! i wonder if that would rub, lol.

3.5" taller and 2" further out from my stock setup ; )

according to this thread, http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/wheels-tires/67550-largest-tire-sizes-stock-suspension.html, the 275/65/18 on that 18x9 wheel would only be 6mm taller and stick out 10mm more than the biggest combo that works with a stock suspension. i wonder how close those biggest sizes actually are to the limit with stock suspension.

    this shit is so confusing.

Finally someone makes a thread about volks. I hate to say this but 90% of after market wheels on TW are fugly. No offense. Here's a thread I made on another forum when I was barely looking at buying a tacoma. Any way good info and picture, plus who knows more about volks that the tuner scene.

Those are 18x9 +0. As for tires they look like 285/60/18 Toyo AT's.

Best lookin black rims I've seen. All on black, your truck is badass, diggin the whole setup. Like how the front bumper sticks out less from grill than oem. Also diggin on the rear bumper and how it leaves the flare intact. Nice rig!
