15' Tacoma won't start - Fuel Pump question?

Baffles are more for things like the intake setup, where they use them in order to reduce the perceived decibel level of noise being produced as it sucks air in. Baffles are more of an NVH thing. Hahaha.

 

I live out in the sticks of East Tn.

Wow a lot has been said since I started working on things today....Thanks to all that replied, I'll go through and read everything. Was gonna pick up a fuel filter today as well, am I seeing this right that our trucks DO NOT have an in line filter? What joker in the engineering department decided that was a great idea?!

Dropped my tank, part number on the pump is 291000-1080 which leads me to 950-0203. Your part number

950-0210 and this one both show on Denso's site to be compatible with Tacoma. What's weird is if you search Denso's site it does not return any results for 2015....I noticed these pumps only go up to year 2014, IT has not been keeping up with their shit! Edit: The 950-0203 shows for the 2.7L

Bench tested the motor and nada, not getting a hum/whine/vibration from it on 12v. The strainer is pure black...

IF I can find one locally I will go that route, $100 and some change is far better than $4-500 for the entire assembly. Problem is I only have a week off per month and I have a lot to get done these days off, if it comes down to it the Delphi will go in.

 

I did clear codes today and swapped out relay, still no start. The rest is hard to diagnose without a running truck (or at least it would be for me). Last resort would be buying a fuel pressure kit and hooking up to feed line off tank and testing at the pump directly. Considering I had no way of getting around today my best option was dropping the tank, after seeing no other obvious reasons the truck would not start, and checking the fuel pump assembly. My bench test shows the pump is dead - now I can move forward to parts.

That is why I came on here and asked the questions....I am a very mechanically inclined fellow, do all my own everything, don't trust others but that doesn't mean I know this truck inside and out. Forums are here to share each others knowledge, not judge them for what they are unsure of.

 

Just finished putting the new pump in, truck started right up on the second crank!

Nicely done. Definitely worth investing in a Jerrycan or rotopax to keep the fuel tank from running on E and preventing future issues with the new pump.

 

Thanks! Yeah I have a 3 gal rotopax that I might just look into mounting onto the truck. If anything I'll strap one of my 5 gal. VP cans in the back. If I could get this damned Cummins going I wouldn't have to worry about it anymore lol

I hate putting all this mileage on my Tacoma as it is and the shitty roads it constantly sees.

 

900 miles is alot. The Tacoma can handle the miles that I would feel extremely uncomfortable taking with the Cummins. With mileage and mpg, unless you really need a truck, I would look into a 4cyl beater car.

 

It's an older 5.9 and mechanically in good shape, electrically no so much lol. I do have to agree that I would trust the Tacoma for reliability any day over the Cummins but I need a work truck that I can throw around, carry a large job box full of tools in and not worry about beating it to death. The Cummins should actually get better fuel mileage too.

 

Well man I have to admit that you were right....That Delphi died on me yesterday cruising 75 down the highway with 3/4 tank of gas. Had to get my dad to come tow me to their place, give me a ride into San Antonio and buy a new OEM pump. $520 was steep but the old man did me a solid and paid for it, took the Delphi back to Napa this morning and they refunded me no questions asked. Didn't want to deal with syphoning the gas so changed it out with 3/4 tank of fuel; was a bit more of a struggle but I got it done in about 2 hours and two whiskey and cokes.
So to anyone in the future looking at this post with the same question - DO NOT BUY A DELPHI

The two things I noticed after putting the Delphi in - Fuel mileage got horrible, was getting less than 300 miles to a tank of gas. Also there was a loud pitch whine that you could hear in the cab (kinda like the old square body chevy pumps would make).

 

There is a reason why I post the things I do.

It's not that I'm a "parts snob" as put so eloquently in this thread. It's because I've been around the block and know better at this point. Regardless, I'm really glad to see it worked out for you. It took two takes for it to do so, but nevertheless you fared out well!

 

Thanks man and yeah I feel ya, I am not a parts snob by any means but I can say I don't like doing unnecessary extra work. Do it once and do it right, had I know my situation with work was gonna change I could of originally just purchased the OEM online and waited for it to come in.
