Installed a new skid plate on my truck and noticed oil leaking from this bolt. Please help identify what this pan is for and if it’s a big deal? Thank you!

    Always in process
That's the oil pan.... and that is the oil drain bolt. Either a bad crush washer or some residual oil from the last oil change.

Unless there is a legit puddle somewhere i'd ignore it till the next oil change and just get a new crush washer

    ^ This.

Just put a wrench on it and make sure it's snug in the time being.
There might be no crush washer there, or there could even be two, stacked.

Leave it. If you didn’t know that was an oil drain plug I wouldn’t suggest cranking down on it.

if there isn’t a puddle somewhere wipe that drop off with a cloth and you’re fine.

Oh wow this is the drain plug for oil changes, right? I’ve done several oil changes but always left the 2nd oem skid plate on and just didn’t realize it looked like that. I always use a new gasket and torque to spec so not sure why it’s leaking. Anyway thank you all for the quick reply’s and I feel like an idiot :)

Check for a washer on that bolt. If there is none or two stacked on top of each other, you will have leaks. Check further up the engine and at the transmission and engine block joint for possible leaks too.

Didn't realize the oil pan looked like that. With the OEM TRD skids you only take off the front half and I just didn't see the whole pan open like that. New skid is one piece that covers it all so had to take the 2nd further back OEM skid off and it threw me off. Don't worry I've been doing oil changes correctly just a stupid moment on my part.

No worries, your first sentence threw me off a bit. Tacoma's oil pan does look a little weird, lol
