Pictures can be deceiving. I'll pass judgement based on looks when I start to see them in person.

My like is based on some of the specs. Did you read the article?

 

Definitely looks intriguing from a description perspective, and of course, I like the better fuel economy (though, really, NiMH?)

But it does look like a lumbering beast. I feel like Toyota grilles just keep getting bigger and bulkier, and the hoods taller and harder to see over. This one looks like a freaking GGMC, (Gigantic GMC). Obviously in the full-size market, that's the place they are competing (Raptor, GMC, etc.) so I can't blame them too much; just not my taste. Will be interesting to see what the ground clearance is on it, and how it can be built out. As a hybrid, there may be fewer options, as a lot of the equipment may affect the inner workings.

Time will tell, but one thing's for sure - the world is different than it was back in 1st gen Taco days!

And of course, if you get one, I want a ride in it.

 

yeah some of the specs are nice. But I don't like the interior and it looks terrible. So..yeah no thanks. If I was buying a full sized I'd pick a Chevy I think right now. granted thats all based on face value. Who knows once you see them in person and drive one. Though I have seen the new chevys and think they look nice.

 

The NiMH battery choice kind of makes sense. Its already a mature tech for Toyota (since its been in use since the first Prius) and unlike LiION has a developed recycling for end of life.

Its at least got me intrigued though. But lets see what the MSRP is and what the real world MPG is. A lot of the features are great sounding from a Toyota stand point....but have been available in the other three for years now.


The F-150 hybrid has been on my short list of trucks I'd pick up so itll be interesting to see how the Tundra hybrid variant compares

 

lol the chevy looks decent enough. I saw a few in town the other day. They aren't bad in person. Which the tundra could look better in person too. Either way, it'll be way way way too much money as all full sizes are these days.

 

I would agree, lets see how much MPGs are improved. I think the current model is 14-17ish. Essentially that same as what I get in my truck.

Out of curiosity, what is the MSRP for the F-150 hybrids on your list?

 

Yeah 14/17 for the current model.

To much is what it is. I think to get the hybrid its basically 50k plus depending on exactly what model and options. Think 4x4 hybrid is minimum 55k.

Sadly the Tacoma is going to end up being to small in the next couple years. We are expecting twins come March.

Definitely. Luckily we have both my wife and my car so dont have to rush. But kind of puts a damper on the other vehicles. The Truck would kind of work once older...but no room for the dog. The MR2 they wont ride in for a long time. The FJ40 would be another "when older" thing.

They drive nice too, my Dad's Sierra is a great daily, easy on fuel, comfy as hell and has lots of get up and go even with the base 5.3 engine and 10spd trans

Yeah the drive nice for sure. Get better MPG than Igor does too. Quiet. I'd own one probably. Just too damn expensive.

Found a nice camp site for the evening. A bit smoky (mostly at lower elevations) but otherwise quite pleasant.

Have you seen the requirements to get in? Wonder if living in a truck all summer counts as quarantining.

 

You don’t have to quarantine to get in. You do have to be vaxed, have a negative test less than 72 hrs old, and fill out your ArriveCAN profile.
