Taco PRO Owners: Interested in a spring upgrade for front?

Dude it's misinformation to call those compressors dangerous. If used correctly they pose no harm to the operator or spring.

 

Swapping the springs is cheap, the quotes you got are for strut removal, replace spring, then reinstall spring, then install rear lift.

If you can take the struts out your self, it will be cheap.

 

I’m guessing he meant he removed the front assemblies from the truck and brought those in. It’s a good way to save money.

 

I removed the struts and took them to the shop to swap springs. Spring swap = 30 bucks

 

Isn’t it everyone’s intent to use them “correctly?”

You have a greater chance of getting into an accident and getting hurt going to the grocery store than having a spring compressor fail. LOL

 

Yeah bro the threads on that 3/8" threaded rod have tensile strength over 5000lbs. What exactly does ol' Talon think is dangerous?

I have 2 sets and use all 4 when I do springs. Makes me feel safer.

 

I’ve only done about 15 miles of city driving and I got 14.4 mpg… so not good. Hopefully mixed city/highway is better.

 

Yeah keep me posted after a few more miles. I think I could stomach 15-17

 

I had 4Wheel Parts do it. They charged me $380 to swap in the new springs plus $138 for the alignment. (They also installed new UCAs and tires at the same time, which was additional cost.). The shop I usually go to wouldn’t install them, because they only install parts you buy thru them. So, I called around and 4WParts was happy to do it. They did a good job.

 

I called 4WP and they said they would only do the entire strut/spring replacement. Would not do a spring swap only. Asked about front spring/strut replacement, They said around 400.00. NOPE! That would have put me at ~$800 for a 1 inch lift... now I know I could use the extra inch, but DAMN!

 

Yea - it isn’t as inexpensive as I first thought it might be. I was upgrading to 33-inch tires, so I needed the extra ~1.5 inches. BUT - I thought I was going to have to replace the entire suspension with Kings or Fox, so this route was decidedly cheaper than that.

 

That’s silly, you drive? (Same flawed logic can be applied to that).
They are no more or less dangerous than using a hi-lift jack. Use them correctly and they are perfectly fine, many don’t and have no desire to, they think they know better after watching some twit on YouTube.

 

Anybody just do the fronts and not the rear block or leaf? Any pics? Wondering if that will make it level. Ever since I put 33’s on I noticed the front is little lower even though it’s a pro..

I’m still debating trying this myself. I just don’t want to end up like I do when I work on my bike, crying in my garage at 1 am looking for a stupid bolt that dropped and rolled off somewhere with my truck in pieces and no idea how I’m going to put it back together

 

You guys are using spring compressors? Ive been using giant zip ties like a chump this whole time!

Put some 1/4” top plates on if you want a little extra lift

 

I'm getting 15-16 around town on 285/75r16s. I have about 500ish constant load in the bed (ARE CX-HD, Decked, and tools). I drive fairly relaxed though, it ain't a sports car.

Edit: Probably should add that I'm running E rated LT285/75r16 Yokohama Geolandar AT GO15s and KDMax SLT for clarification...they are heavy, tune makes driving and towing the Tacoma more than acceptable.
