So, yes, I've read the manual, and did see the bit about only using the locker while going under 5mph in 4 Lo.

But, I'm curious as to what logic happens when you're not in 4 Lo, and you poke the button. So, in 4 Hi, if you hit the button, does the brainbox just ignore the input besides flashing the locker display on the dash, until you drop into 4 Lo, then it locks the rear diff, or will the rear diff actually attempt to lock while in 4 Hi?

I'm asking this because I'd like to know more about how the system, and the logic behind it, works.

You get flashing lights telling you to press the button again to turn it off. That’s about it.

I’ve accidentally hit it plenty of times. Especially when cleaning the interior, I get tons of angry lights when I start it the next time.

    lol Angry dash is angry.

Well, that's good to know. If you have it pressed, and do drop it into 4 Lo, will it automatically try locking the rear, or will it make you push the button to turn it off, then back on?

The switch basically sends a locker request signal to the 4wd ECU, the 4wd ECU then checks if the correct conditions are met before it will engage the locker. On a 4wd truck it will ignore the locker switch unless it's in 4 low, there's not really any way to "trick" it into engaging the locker in 2wd if that's what your asking.
